Had a very relaxed tour and tasting led by an enthusiastic young man who, by his own account, has his dream job.
The wines are pricey, but definitely worth it.

Great wines. Great tour of village and winery. Wonderful tour guide and staff. We'll worth the time and cost. Beautiful buildings within the village. Photos galore!

The positives:
* A magnificent location, nestled in the heart of Tuscany.
* A peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, ideal for recharging your batteries.
* Opportunities for wine tastings in an authentic setting.
The negatives:
* The breakfast is very disappointing with a very limited selection.
* The swimming pool is in need of renovation: the liner is damaged and its overall condition leaves much to be desired.
With a few improvements, particularly to the breakfast and pool maintenance, the experience would be much more enjoyable.

We had an overall nice stay at Castello di Volpaia, enjoyed some great wine and one of the best dinner at their Osteria, all with a wonderful view of the small village and the Tuscan hills.
The breakfast was limited, but still we had the main things. Also, the lady working in the breakfast restaurant was so nice!
However, there were a few downsides:
- the AC did not work, it was very old and could not face the hot weather (40 degrees Celsius). Unfortunately during the day, when we wanted to escape the heat, it was unbearable to stay in the room. We received a fan from the reception, which made it a bit better, but still very warm in the room. I saw there were other reviews about this issue from the past years and apparently the issue is not resolved.
- the pool is pretty degraded (looks like it was patched to keep it functional) and not well maintained - needed cleaning, vacuumed a bit and should organized every day - there were used towels left on the sun beds from the days before.
All in all, we enjoyed the location, the small village, the very nice people who made everything better!

Incredible town, incredible experience, incredible people, incredible wine. Spend some time there if you're not staying there. Though I'd recommend staying there if you are interested in exploring the chianti region and laying low from the city.

This is a magical little village and winery. We visited Volpaia as part of our 4-days-Chianti-wine-trip and it turned out to be the peak of it, both in terms of flair, beauty and wine quality. Hospitality was great too. Even their olive oil is fantastic.
Can't recommend this enough for a memorable visit.

We had an absolutely fantastic private tour and tasting and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Chianti region.
What made this experience so special was that it was far more than a wine tasting—it was a fascinating journey through history. Learning that Volpaia is still a living medieval village with only about 30 residents, including many employees who help operate the winery, made the experience feel incredibly authentic and unique.
Our guide was wonderful and even arranged for us to enjoy our tasting in a private reserved wine room, which made the experience feel intimate and personalized. The wines were excellent, but the history behind the estate was equally memorable.
One of the most fascinating parts of the tour was learning how the historic castle was carefully transformed into a winery. The restoration took well over a decade because of strict preservation requirements. We were amazed to hear that every roof tile had to be removed, restored, and returned to its original location to maintain the integrity of the historic structure.
The rich history of the castle and village, combined with outstanding wines and a beautifully curated private experience, made this one of the highlights of our trip to Tuscany. The private tour and tasting were absolutely worth it, and we left with a much deeper appreciation for both the wines and the centuries of history behind them.
