The place is welcoming. The service is what you'd expect in a small establishment. There's a bit of a wait, but it's justified. If you want paella, you'll need to make a reservation—perhaps it would be better to specify this on the menu.
The seafood appetizer was good; troccoli, seasoned in any case, were more than good; the fresh fish was good; the desserts were also good. The house white wine didn't do justice to the dishes.
I absolutely recommend the restaurant.

Discovered while wandering the charming alleys of Trani, this taverna resembles a haven for seafarers. The spacious restaurant seats a dozen or so tables and is uniquely furnished, with stunning exposed beams. The owner welcomes guests and serves them, explaining the typical local dishes, both meat and fish. The food is excellent, perfectly cooked, and served with originality. Highly recommended!

I dined here for the first time one evening in August 2023. Since then, Taverna Portanova has been my go-to restaurant when I return to Trani. Must-try: the spaghetti with clams (well-seasoned and with lots of shellfish), the Catalan-style shrimp are delicious, the mixed fried fish is excellent, the sautéed octopus with potatoes is exquisite, and the grilled fish (prawns, cuttlefish, and catch of the day) is well-executed.
Excellent value for money.
What can I say? A restaurant I'll happily return to.

Locale accogliente nel centro storico di Trani, gentilissima la titolare e i camerieri che ci hanno aspettato nonostante il nostro notevole ritardo. Nota di merito particolare per gli antipasti di pesce, ottimi sia cotti che crudi.
