31/03/2026: Crotto del Sergente is one of those places where, if you ask a local from Como, you'll get only one answer: "Of course I know it."
. A name that brings with it high expectations...
and I'll tell you how my experience went.
We arrived and immediately found parking right in front of the place: convenient and stress-free. First point in its favor.
Outside, there's a pleasant space where you can start the evening with a relaxing aperitif: second point
in its favor.
We went in to announce our arrival (earlier than our friends) and asked to have a drink outside. Even though we offered to bring our own glasses, given the breeze, the staff—very kindly—insisted on serving us directly.
A noticeable attention.
And here comes a surprise: along with the wine, unexpectedly, they also brought us a small plate of cold cuts and bread. A simple but much appreciated gesture. Third point in its favor.
Once full, we were seated and the service continued with water and two baskets of bread.
(an absolutely perfect choice for four people), accompanied by butter left available for the entire dinner: a detail I personally found very positive.
The appetizers? Truly exceptional!!
The highest quality cured meats and cheeses, intense and authentic flavors. But the real surprise was the savory red onion tarte tatin with Zincarlin and balsamic vinegar pearls: simply wow!!!
It was a shame about the main courses, though.
We chose three different dishes, and two of the three didn't convince us: dry, flavorless, and not up to par with the appetizers. In particular, the polenta arancini and the rabbit medallion didn't meet expectations.
The wine list, on the other hand, was very positive: extensive, well-cured, and with options to suit all tastes and budgets.
The location is undoubtedly one of its strong points: warm, welcoming, and quaint...
To recap:
Location 10
Friendliness of staff 10
Wine list 10
Sufficient cuisine (excellent appetizers, main courses to review)
A small note on the service, perhaps a little too fast, and on the sweets offered at the end of the meal. Personally, I'd opt for the classic licorice gummies and not the mint or honey hard candies.
Overall, it's still a great experience.
A place worth trying, especially for the atmosphere and appetizers.
28/03/2026: A very quaint, rustic, well-kept, and beautiful venue. Good food. The six-course tasting menu is varied and features unique and refined dishes. We weren't thrilled with the wine on the menu.
