A guide that is decidedly above the average level of Palermo guides. Even if you think you are prepared, the visit will still surprise you. And since the ticket takes us to Villa Zito, an interesting and well-appointed art gallery, €10 will be well spent.

Amazing palace, former pawnshop, now restored with a beautiful collection of old wooden puppets. Guided tour in English or Italian.

First, disappointment - you can't enter the museum "from the street": you have to wait up to an hour and enter with a guide. Okay, I'll wait for EUR 10. Just before entering, another disappointment - the lady at the reception says that the guide generally speaks in Italian, but if I want to ask something, he will answer me in English. Ultimately, it turned out that there was only me on the hour, so a guide named Emilia (a very nice person!) showed me alone around the entire museum, answered all my questions, and all in English! So ultimately I highly recommend it!

Curious and evocative historic palace in Palermo made up of a Renaissance and an eighteenth-century part compromised by the war and the revolutionary uprisings of 1848. Restored in 2012 by Gae Aulenti, today it displays a collection of archaeological finds, the puppets in the wooden structure that was used as Monte dei pledges, and temporary art/photographic exhibitions. To discover!

Palazzo Branciforte is a sixteenth-century Sicilian palace, located in the historic center of Palermo, in via Bara dell'Olivella. Since 2012 it has been the headquarters of the Sicilia Foundation. It was built during the 16th century on the edge of the Castello a Mare, and was first the private residence of the Count of Raccuja, then it was purchased at the beginning of the 17th century by Giuseppe Branciforte, prince of Pietraperzia. It was one of the most sumptuous patrician homes in the city. Following a renovation work, started in 2008 by Gae Aulenti, the building was reopened to the public on 23 May 2012. The restoration work led to the restoration of the internal road that connected the two entrances, the stables and the gardens: environments that had been damaged by various bombings. Among the most valuable parts of the building, the wooden structure that housed the Santa Rosalia pawnshop stands out, composed of shelves up to the ceiling. The entire restoration work cost eighteen million euros. The inauguration took place in the presence of the Head of State Giorgio Napolitano who also visited the photographic exhibition, housed inside the building, on Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino on the occasion of the twenty-year anniversary of their death. Inside the Palace, in the so-called "Cavallerizza", on the ground floor the archaeological collection of the Sicilia Foundation is housed, until then at the Mormino Museum of Villa Zito, with 4,751 unique pieces, many of which are exhibited for the first time. It is divided into three nuclei: the finds, the materials, the purchases.

20/01/2025: Our first lunch as soon as we arrived in Palermo, a pleasure! Crocché bread and panelle, arancina with ham and cheese, rascature, goodness and kindness, don't miss to stop by here if you're nearby!
26/12/2024: The arancini meat is plentiful and delicious. 1.5 euros of happiness. The owner is very kind. A place I want to come to every morning.
