Sometimes you travel miles to search for refined flavors and tastes, without realizing that you can find what you're looking for just outside your home.
A short distance from our house, the Osteria La Scarpetta, where quality, service and kindness reign supreme, offers traditional dishes from Reggio Emilia that are truly of the highest level.

Sono tornato alla Scarpetta con la mia famiglia al gran completo e ho mangiato benissimo i piatti della nostra tradizione reggiana. I cappelletti in brodo e i tortelli sono buonissimi e la sorpresa del bollito altrettanto buono è stata una sorpresa graditissima. I salumi di qualità accompagnati da un gnocco fritto (non torta fritta perché l’italiano è una lingua unica) molto leggero un obbligo. Qualità e freschezza sono un elemento indiscutibile dell’ottima cucina di Anna e Paolo. Anche il nostro cagnolino se potesse scrivere una recensione darebbe il massimo per la gentilezza con cui viene trattato e anche qualche pezzettino di prosciutto se lo sbaffa. Questo ristorante continua a migliorare e la qualità del cibo e la pulizia e l’ordine e i prezzi giusti completano il quadro di un ristorante ormai affermato e tra i migliori della città con le nostre tipicità. Scrivo la recensione perché lo meritano.

Booked Sunday lunch with friends, 8 people including 2 children under 10 years old. The place isn't full, there's us, another table of a dozen kids and a table with two people. The owner serves us in a not exactly welcoming way. The menu is rich, but the pantry, we will notice, is not as rich!!
Instead of informing us first of unavailable dishes, the waiter waits for our choices to communicate what is missing.
In the end they are missing: lasagne, roast rabbit, roast veal, trifle. Meh!
3 platters with fried gnocco, cured meats (low quality) and a piece of Erbazzone, 8 first courses (fair), 7 second courses (without infamy and without praise), 2 bottles of Sangiovese, water, 5 desserts and 6 coffees. €42 each. Definitely exaggerated for the quality of the service and the lack of dishes on the verified menu.

Excellent lunch break in a traditional restaurant. Superb starter of cured meats and fried gnocco. The two first courses were excellent: pumpkin tortello and cappelletto in broth.

I had dinner with my husband recommended by friends, we really enjoyed the food, I think it's the best typical cuisine in the area. Extraordinary tortelli of many types including super carbonara. Unique dumplings and cured meats, not to mention the meat, I would say is truly exquisite. I recommend it to everyone also for the price given the truly honest quality they offer. We will be back very soon.
