A pearl in the Casentino. The study behind each dish and each combination is of the highest level, as is the quality of the ingredients used. Accompanying it all is a journey of combinations of wines and other drinks that are nothing short of sensational. The great preparation and kindness of the staff contributes to making the atmosphere even more magical. Here the food is a journey into every detail of the territory and capable of generating great emotions in those lucky enough to taste it.

We were unable to enjoy the small village of Moggiona due to a rainy spring, but we made up for it with the route to the Mater restaurant, which accompanied us among the scents and scents of the surrounding forest. Bringing the forest and all its suggestions onto the plate is the intent of chef Baroni, for a menu proposal linked to the territory, to the proximity of Camaldoli and to the products of the vegetable garden and the 0 km garden. In the tasting menu "In depth " among our favorites the forest broth and the wild salad with pepper vinegar sorbet, the pigeon is superb. The room is minimal but welcoming, here too the view of the woods of the Casentino park does the honours. The service is attentive and attentive. Since there's no two without three... March 2023. Elegant restaurant with attention to detail. Everything revolves around the theme of nature: the cuisine offered, the furnishings, the large windows... it's like having dinner in the woods! The dishes are all very good, local, with creative but harmonious combinations. Relaxed and welcoming service. It ends with some very welcome surprises: a special herbal tea and an "à porter" menu card.

Ci vuole tempo, pazienza e voglia di guidare per arrivare al Mater ma quando si insinua il desiderio che in un certo ristorante bisogna passarci beh…. allora si deve trovare l’occasione giusta e andare. È una bella mattina soleggiata di inizio settembre quella in cui ci mettiamo in macchina e pronunciamo la frase “ Ehi Mercedes…. Vai a Moggiona“ Da quel momento al nostro arrivo passeranno circa due ore , viaggiando tra i boschi ombrosi e le fitte foreste dell’Appennino Tosco-Romagnolo , attraversando paesaggi che addolciranno la lunghezza del viaggio. Moggiona è un piccolissimo, grazioso borgo di poco più di sessanta anime dove si immaginerebbe di poter incontrare, al massimo, una tranquilla e onesta locanda per soddisfare l’appetito di qualche occasionale turista colto da un improvviso attacco di fame . E invece, all’interno del bel resort “I tre baroni” , trova la sua giusta collocazione il Mater, il ristorante gourmet dello chef Filippo Baroni e di sua moglie Marta : un elegante locale con una bellissima cucina a vista dove sono certo potremo trovare la meritata ricompensa alle nostre fatiche turistiche. E così sarà. Attraverso il percorso degustazione scelto (In superficie, ndr) avremo modo di apprezzare la felice creatività di questo giovane e coraggioso chef basata su una cucina del territorio rivisitata e corretta ma sempre concreta e bilanciata. L’amore per la sua terra e la voglia di raccontare l’essenza di questi luoghi magici e così intrisi di spiritualità all’interno delle foreste Casentinesi ( l’antico eremo dei frati Camaldolesi è a due passi da qui) rappresentano il fil rouge della filosofia gastronomica di Baroni che diventa la voce narrante di questa piccola ma felice realtà . Il risultato: una bellissima ed inaspettata esperienza da mettere nell’album dei ricordi belli. Ed a quel punto affrontare il viaggio di ritorno non sarà altro che una piccola formalità. Molto ma molto bene !

Forest cuisine It takes time, patience and the desire to drive to get to the Mater but when the desire creeps in that you have to go to a certain restaurant, well…. then you have to find the right opportunity and go. It's a beautiful sunny morning in early September when we get into the car and say the phrase “Hey Mercedes…. Go to Moggiona“ From that moment to our arrival approximately two hours will pass, traveling through the shady woods and dense forests of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines, crossing landscapes that will make it easier to withstand the length of the journey. Moggiona is a very small, charming village of just over sixty inhabitants where one could imagine finding, at most, a modest inn to feed the occasional tourist struck by a sudden attack of hunger. And instead, inside the beautiful “I tre baroni” resort, the Mater, the gourmet restaurant of chef Filippo Baroni and his wife Marta, finds its rightful place: an elegant venue with a beautiful open kitchen where I am sure we will be able to find the deserved reward for our tourist efforts. And so it will be. Through the chosen tasting itinerary (On the surface, ed.) we will have the opportunity to appreciate the happy creativity of this young and courageous chef based on a revisited and correct but always concrete and balanced local cuisine. The love for his land and the desire to tell the essence of these magical places so imbued with spirituality within the Casentino forests (the ancient hermitage of the Camaldolese friars is a stone's throw from here) represent the common thread of the Baroni's gastronomic philosophy which becomes the narrative voice of this small but happy reality. The result: a beautiful and unexpected experience to put in the album of beautiful memories. And at that point, making the return journey will be nothing more than a small formality. Very, very good!

Again a wonderful dinner at Mater. Excellent very friendly service, amazing dishes. Higlights: the spaghetto and the cervo. We will keep coming back again and again. Having been to great restaurants all over the world, we truly do not understand why this restaurant does not have a michelin star.

Probably our best tasting menu and meal in Italy. Stayed at Il Borro about 1hr drive on windy roads, but don’t let the ride deter you. It’s worth every second. Exquisite cuisine, service, wine pairing, and overall experience. Beautiful atmosphere and is a must try. Spectacular and nothing but amazing things to say!

An elegant and refined venue with a priceless view in a hamlet transformed into an elegant resort. Large room with window overlooking the valley. On the other side of the room another large window with an open kitchen. Refined welcome and illustration of the menu offers Extensive wine list, both local, Italian and foreign. Some of the portions may seem small but you realize that they are actually designed not to fill you up and prevent you from enjoying the next ones. Dishes designed to give significant flavor combinations. Everything is excellent.

02/11/2023: Il Verreno Resort war für mich eine sehr positive Überraschung. Ich war eine Woche im Hotel und das Zimmer Blumen (Flowers), dass einen separaten Wohnzimmerbereich mit Ledercouch und einem Tisch, sowie einem Schreibtisch hat. Das separate Bad hatte 2 Waschbecken und ein sehr großes, offenes Bad. Das einzige Manko ist der Weg ins Zimmer, da eine steile Treppe zum Überwinden war. Das Frühstück ist für italienische Verhältnisse extrem gut. Früchte, Müsli, Saftpresse, Obst, etc. alles was man in Italien nicht so kennt. Ergänzend gab es Lachs, Schinken, Salami, Käse, warme Zutaten, die üblichen Eiergerichte und natürlich was Süßes. Im Sommer kann man im Freien Frühstücken und es sicherlich noch schöner als im November. Das Resort bietet auch noch einen Fitnessraum, Sauna und eine eigenen Palast zum Feste Feiern oder Heiraten. Das Resort steht alleine auf einen Hügel und ist für Hunde bestens geeignet. Ich kann dieses Resort wärmstens empfehlen.
04/10/2023: Il Verreno is an absolutely beautiful hotel, with wonderful staff (including Lola, the dog) and stunning scenery. We spent 5 nights here whilst attending our friend's wedding in Bucine and it was the perfect Tuscan ecscape. Neither of us have felt this relaxed on a holiday before, I'm so glad we found this place. The room (suite!) is gorgeous, the food is fantastic, including breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the views are idealic. My husband booked me a massage and the hotel organised for a wonderful therapist, Lorenzo, to do it. Thank you Il Verreno for a lovely stay.

10/12/2023: È il secondo anno che veniamo ad Arezzo ed è tappa obbligata. Cucinano solo cose fresche. Tutto eccellente. Dagli antipasti, ai primi e ai secondi. Pappardelle al sugo di chianina furibonda. Filetto al pepe verde veramente buono. Consigliato per i buongustai. Prezzi alti però giusti per la qualità. Consigliatissimo. I proprietari sono simpatici e gentili
