Ristorante Giglio In Lucca

Restaurant located in the beautiful Piazza del Giglio also with outdoor tables. Fast, courteous and attentive service. Varied menu, includes both meat and fish, I found the spaghetti with sea urchins and the catch of the day very good. Extensive wine list, also with some solutions by the glass, but be careful of the slightly high markups. The quality-price ratio is however absolutely correct. Excellent experience.

Let me start by saying that the food is so amazing that I had to give it 5 stars in total - BUT the service here is below subpar for a restaurant that prides itself on the michelin star it used to have. The service is probably a big reason why it doesn't have that star anymore. The waiters seemed to be very busy and some staff members were straight up lying. Small things like forgetting to remove the bread crumbs from our table, a glass that was broken on the rim where you put your lips and forgetting to come back to explain the food we just got. The part that made it very bad was in particular one waiter who came with the food and just said "enjoy" without explaining what food was, twice. The first time he did it, I asked him what dessert we just got - he said "it's ice cream". I asked him what kind and he said "vanilla ice cream with strawberry on top". We tasted it and didn't taste like that at all. I asked another waiter what dessert we got and it turned out it wasn't a dessert at all, but a pallet cleanser - a type of ice cream that was smoked on wood with olive oil etc. which gives it a sense of cheese mouthfeel. Either way - the first waiter had no idea and decided to just explain what the dish looked like instead of saying "I don't know but I'll find a waiter who does" or something like that. My wife was pregnant and so her food was well done - that waiter could have probably mixed up the dishes which could have been bad. Either way... The taste and creativity makes up for it. But as I said, if they want their michelin star back they need to fix the waiter situation first.

Sitting at the restaurant currently having a euphoric moment… do I eat the last bite of this meal to continue the flavour journey I have been taken on, or do I leave it for a few more moments and cherish the experience I have had? Delicious, maybe the best meal I’ve had in Italy.

5 stars and a lot deserved: friendly and attentive service, truly sublime food, excellent bread. Ps. I've read a few scattered reviews and I'm always amazed by those who write: "Tried it after a year and it disappointed me compared to before" but before maybe when everything was positive, instead it wasn't worth writing eh?! I remind everyone that behind a restaurant there are people who work hard every day, putting their faces and their hearts into it. We would also like to see the same from these pseudo reviewers/hopeful gastronomy experts because they have seen a few episodes of Masterchef. I always hope for a revolution!

Sadly a poor experience from beginning to end. The food was not to my taste, but frankly the service and response to our concerns were the main issue. The sommelier was more interested in entertaining his friends , the young woman waitress took our (delicious) bread away after one course without asking, then tried to bring us coffee after our second course. To be frank the waiting staff were casual to the point of unprofessional. My pigeon was inedible due to sinew, and to top it all my husband found plastic in his desert. All this was received with derision by the staff and they patronisingly gave us £11 off a in excess of £300 bill. To be fair the owner contacted me the next day to invite us back as his guest which was a nice offer, however we were in lucca for the weekend and donot intend to return soon. Also we did not feel the desire to rush back, it was never about money the experience has left a sour taste on our visit which was otherwise very nice with some less celebrated restaurants outdoing themselves.

Excellent dishes, perfect pasta cooking and exceptional flavours. Everything was delicious from the entree to the dessert. Prices appropriate to the type of restaurant. Very friendly staff who pay attention to everything.

Davvero buono, spaghetti ai ricci, torta di spugnole, patate bottarga, crudo di ricciola e minestra di crostacei. Solo alcuni dei piatti buonissimi che presenta il Giglio 2.0. Concept differente, si sta davvero bene. Consigliato

Heated rumors of a great tasting menu. Read their philosophy about menus and made a reservation the next day! Loved it. Paired wines worked perfectly. Portions were perfect so that you were satisfied it not over full. Flavors and combinations were creative and evoked memories. A perfect sensory experience. Service was friendly and professional. Un pranzo dai contrasti dissonanti, in cui la ricerca di un’identità culinaria sembra smarrirsi tra ambizioni non pienamente realizzate. La volontà di rievocare le radici della tradizione in chiave contemporanea si scontra con un'esecuzione che appare incerta, priva di quel rigore tecnico e quella profondità di sapori che distinguono la grande ristorazione. La sala, spoglia di calore e atmosfera, trasmette un senso di incompiutezza, mentre il servizio si rivela lento e privo dell’attenzione che un locale come questo dovrebbe garantire. A chiudere il cerchio, un conto decisamente impegnativo, che amplifica la sensazione di un’esperienza che non riesce a giustificare le aspettative. Un ristorante dal passato conosciuto ed importante, ma che oggi sembra essersi smarrito tra le vie di Lucca, alla ricerca di una direzione che ancora non riesce a trovare.
