A historic restaurant on the number one boiled meat platter. Unfortunately, when you leave, you see the decay of a city like Reggio Emilia. Returning to the car late at night is definitely a total nightmare. And to think it's just a few meters from the police station.

Historic trattoria in Reggio, an old place, but it has its reasons. If you pass in front of it you don't go in, old sign..... but if you go in you discover a genuine world, made of excellent products, of chefs who have given their soul to the place and who will lose their soul. Highly recommended everything, from pasta to boiled meat that steals your heart, go there

So, if you're in a hurry, I'll tell you right away, the food is good, the price is right, and it takes you back to the '70s. If you want to know more, read on. When we arrived, we went in, looked around, and were about to leave. The place really doesn't look very good. It feels like we're back in the '70s, with all the patina and squalor you can imagine. Luckily, we decided to stop and eat. As I was saying, the location is really, really, really dated and neglected. Everywhere you look, there's something wrong, and you even have doubts about the level of hygiene. You look around and realize it's a place where locals go. Most likely regulars. I don't think I've seen tourists like us. Families, young couples, older couples. There's really everything, but mostly locals. Then they bring you the menu, and you start to get curious. We had both a pasta dish and a main course, and we ate really well. The flavors are authentic, and the quality seems really good. We're not from the area, so we can't judge the tortelli or tagliatelle. But we thought they were really good, and the ragù was equally flavorful. Then we moved on to the boiled meat trolley; I'd had references for this in other parts of Italy, even more renowned ones. I must say, this boiled meat is truly remarkable: flavorful, smooth, and served by an exceptional person. I've been serving boiled meat trolleys for 53 years. The prices are more than reasonable. Now, to be honest, I'm not sure if we returned to Reggio Emilia we'd dine here again. But the experience is definitely worth it at least once, as long as you're willing to overlook the location.

Reservations for lunch.
The place feels quite dated, with a ceiling fan and decor that could definitely use a refresh, seemingly made of salvaged attic furniture (which, unfortunately, doesn't create the beautiful, carefully curated look found in other places).
To try the traditional dishes, I ordered mortadella and parmesan as an appetizer, and tortelli verdi as a first course. Unfortunately, the appetizer was disappointing because, as you can see from the photo, it wasn't well-presented (10 cubes of mortadella and parmesan shavings thrown on a plate). The first course, however, was good: the tortelli were homemade, but what really surprised me was the enormous plate overflowing with parmesan (I assume it was from a bag because it had the classic lumps) brought to the table.
For dessert, I ordered a mascarpone and strawberry cup (there was nothing traditional, unfortunately).
The service was lovely, and the owner was truly friendly.
Would I go back? Yes, for the first courses and to try the second courses.
Honest bill.
