Stopped by with a friend on a Saturday for lunch. The owner was incredibly helpful in finding us a table even though we hadn't booked. The place immediately evokes the feel of a 1970s club. Despite everything, the tables are set with impeccable professionalism. The cuisine is the same as it used to be, as we used to eat at our grandparents' house on holidays. The dishes are tasty but well-proportioned, neither minute nor overdone. A must-try is the cart of fantastic boiled meats; watching them arrive reveals the quality of the ingredients, accompanied by succulent sauces and pickled vegetables, also reminiscent of past flavors. The Lambrusco is one of those dark ones that stain the glass. The price is standard for Reggio Emilia, but it's not cheap. The service is attentive and meticulous.

I went for dinner yesterday, unfortunately after several years. STILL EXCEPTIONAL! Excellent traditional cuisine, both first and second courses, and a spectacular trolley of boiled and roasted meats!!! The staff, who are traditionally run by the same family, were kind, courteous, polite, and attentive. The service was prompt. LUCKILY, an old-fashioned RESTAURANT, with tables covered with FABRIC TABLECLOTHES and NAPKINS!!! No runners or ugly paper placemats, or even worse, nothing at all... The price is reasonable for the quality of the dishes served. I hope it stays the same for as long as possible.

I'm probably talking about a restaurant institution in Reggio Emilia. Canossa restaurant is what you'd call a "homey" place. The owner is friendly, the atmosphere simple, and the food good. In reality, it's not far from the rating. I happened to be in Reggio Emilia on a Tuesday and was directed to this restaurant, which is quite central. Upon entering, you immediately realize it's a place where you feel at home. The tables are well-set, in the old-fashioned style. They immediately bring you a bottle of good, lively Lambrusco and serve you. Typical Emilian cuisine. We opted for the cappelletti in brodo and the bollito misto. Handmade cappelletti in brodo. The pasta was good, and the filling was delicious, with the Parmesan cheese in it. The broth was delicate but flavorful... It's a shame the cappelletti were cooked a bit undercooked, and you could feel the tough edges of the pasta. The bollito misto was truly varied, with sauces and fruit mustard. Cotechino, zampone, veal, leg of ham, tongue, head, filling, and I don't know what else. Truly good, perfectly cooked. The only downside is the quantity. For €20 a portion, I expected a small platter of boiled meat (being from Turin). Instead of all that meat, a plate with a fairly thin slice and a (yes, a...) spoonful of mashed potatoes. To make a long story short... 1 plate of cappelletti, a "plate" of boiled meat, a bottle of Lambrusco, and a bottle of mineral water: €140 to split between three. I understand good food, the price is fair, but there's no point in carrying a trolley of mixed boiled meat around the dining room if that boiled meat on the plate is barely bigger than a grilled steak. Any advice? Fewer cuts and more substance. I recommend it, but with reservations...

Typical Reggio Emilia cuisine of good quality, sumptuous boiled meat trolley, generous portions (for me it is impossible to have a complete lunch from starter to dessert) price in line with the times

La Taverna Del Villico

16/02/2026: Classic traditional Reggio Emilia place with a good variety of first and second courses, including vegetarian ones. The service girls are very good and fast. Everything is fine, I would say, apart from the background noise. We were in a small room with about fifteen people and it was difficult to talk to the person next door.
15/02/2026: Everything very good, super nice and friendly owner.
