Overall, a positive experience. My boyfriend and I had two main courses; the food was excellent, as was the service. The only flaw, perhaps, was the portions. Otherwise, I highly recommend it, especially for the traditional and charming atmosphere. We'll be back.

Located at the top of a convenient junction to the right of the lovely bike path just outside San Vito, Baita Ciastel welcomed us even though it was closed for maintenance. We thank the hospitality of its friendly owner, Enrico, a young and talented chef.
The enchanting location offers a spectacular view of Mount Pelmo, stretching across the pastures between the slopes of Antelao and Sorapiss. A charming location, well worth a visit. The sun bathes the hut all day, setting right in front of it.
We will gladly return.

There is nothing further to add. The food was excellent, the portion size was generous, and the taste was truly remarkable. The wine suggestion was great, and the serving was superb.

Let's start with the pros: a very nice atmosphere, a friendly and pleasant waiter.
But an hour's wait for food is definitely too long, considering that some dishes were definitely already cooked (soup and venison medallions) and others didn't require very long cooking (pasta with tomato sauce, and the typical mountain dish with sausage, mushrooms, and polenta).
A negative note for the venison: it was practically inedible, so strong was the gamey flavor of the meat. It's one of my favorite meats whenever I see it on a menu, but here it's clear there were some errors in the preparation. The cooking was excellent, as was the quality of the meat, but it had never been marinated. The meat was probably cooked in the sauce, but for venison and game in general, that's not enough. A shame.
