Located at the top of a convenient junction to the right of the lovely bike path just outside San Vito, Baita Ciastel welcomed us even though it was closed for maintenance. We thank the hospitality of its friendly owner, Enrico, a young and talented chef.
The enchanting location offers a spectacular view of Mount Pelmo, stretching across the pastures between the slopes of Antelao and Sorapiss. A charming location, well worth a visit. The sun bathes the hut all day, setting right in front of it.
We will gladly return.

There is nothing further to add. The food was excellent, the portion size was generous, and the taste was truly remarkable. The wine suggestion was great, and the serving was superb.

Let's start with the pros: a very nice atmosphere, a friendly and pleasant waiter.
But an hour's wait for food is definitely too long, considering that some dishes were definitely already cooked (soup and venison medallions) and others didn't require very long cooking (pasta with tomato sauce, and the typical mountain dish with sausage, mushrooms, and polenta).
A negative note for the venison: it was practically inedible, so strong was the gamey flavor of the meat. It's one of my favorite meats whenever I see it on a menu, but here it's clear there were some errors in the preparation. The cooking was excellent, as was the quality of the meat, but it had never been marinated. The meat was probably cooked in the sauce, but for venison and game in general, that's not enough. A shame.

From November 3rd, another new management!! The service definitely needs improvement. The food is decent, but in my opinion, the previous management had better selection and quality.

I came here after a very long day travelling through the Dolomites on motorcycle. The restaurant was very cozy and warm. I was greeted by the chef while walking up, and then warmly welcomed by the rest of staff. The food was hearty and revived me after a very intensive day. The staff had a lovely chat with me after my dinner and helped me navigate my route for the next day. Even after the kitchen had closed, they made me some pasta upon request to take home for my early start tomorrow.
It’s these kinds of places that really make you feel welcome in the country - I’m very glad I stumbled upon this restaurant. Special shoutout to the chef, he had a great bubbly personality which uplifted my entire night.

A wonderful family lunch in this cozy cabin with a panoramic view of Mount Pelmo. We sampled many dishes, as there were so many of us, all delicious and made with quality ingredients. Special mention goes to the venison medallions with berries and the tender pork shank. Nicole provided warm and welcoming service. Compliments to Chef Enrico and his staff.
