27/07/2023: When a restaurant's combination of food, service and ambience is of the highest standard, it is generally referred to as "perfect". But how do you describe a restaurant where this perfection is enhanced by a large portion of innovation, wit and sympathy? Is it then “more perfect” or “perfect to the power of 2”? No matter what you ultimately call it - praise cannot be high enough for the "Astra" in Steinegg, especially in a place that is very close to the center of tourist life in South Tyrol and only a few kilometers (and curves) from Bolzano away, but you don't just pass by "just like that" - you have to want to come here! But it's worth it, and how! The surroundings in the middle of the fantastic mountain world of the Dolomites, with a clear view of countless two and three thousand meter peaks, high above the Isarco Valley and opposite the Renon could not be more beautiful and impressive. Anyone who was lucky enough to sit on the sheltered terrace here when the weather was nice and enjoyed a sunset knows where paradise could have been. The fact that the "table decoration" with countless hand-made plates, platters and bowls is in no way inferior to this work of art of nature makes the ambience of the Astra incomparable. Nothing is off the shelf here, everything is individually thought out and arranged with a lot of innovation and love to give the guest an unforgettable evening. The “spectacle” begins with the personal and friendly service from the boss and sommelier Melanie, who guides you through the menu, clarifies allergies and intolerances and, of course, advises you on the right wine selection if you wish. However, our urgent recommendation is not to work your way through the very good wine list yourself, but rather to get involved with the wine pairing that is perfectly matched to the menu - you won't regret it. The combination and harmony of the drinks with the food served is unique and goes far beyond a “normal” wine accompaniment. The actual main actor - how could it be otherwise in a gourmet restaurant? - but of course it's the food. The variety of tastes, quality and innovation that will be offered in the next 2-3 hours is simply sensational and you have to experience it for yourself. The fact that each dish is more beautifully and exclusively prepared than its already beautiful and unique predecessor surprises and delights you anew with every course and you think more than once "it's too bad" to eat it or "if it tastes as good as it looks. .." (don't worry, it does!). It almost goes without saying that the Astra restaurant has long since been discovered by almost all important and well-known restaurant critics and is highly valued there and regularly receives excellent reviews. It is therefore not surprising that Melanie and Gregor's "works of art" are worth their fair price and are highly sought after - so an early reservation is mandatory if you want to be sure of a table.
