Visited in early July, went without a reservation, so 4 people sat at the remaining 2-person table (it was narrow), but soon more guests who didn't make a reservation came and shared a table for 4. All the food was delicious, lasagna recommended.

One of our most memorable dinners of the trip in Italy! Small cosy restaurant so best to call for bookings in advance. We were served by the owner himself who was very friendly and kind. Food was delightful with comforting warm flavours, with generous portions. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a nice dinner spot in Montalcino

Re di Macchia is a personal recommendation from our B&B host and exceeded all of our expectations! The real, delicious Tuscan cuisine was a delight. We chose the rabbit salad, bruschetta, manzo brasato and the guinea fowl, which was the daily recommendation from the personable, friendly and multilingual chef. The restaurant exudes a family atmosphere and offers rustic, traditional cuisine, which we were very impressed with.
The selection of wines is impressive and perfectly matched to the dishes. Of all the restaurants in Montalcino, this one made the best impression on us. Despite being aimed at tourists, it appears authentic and friendly, in complete contrast to the restaurants on the piazza.
Unfortunately we were too full to try another dessert, but the desserts looked excellent on the neighboring table. Instead, we opted for a local Moscadella, a delicious sweet wine with cantuccini.
Five stars for Re di Macchia – we would love to come back!

We spontaneously looked for a restaurant and found it here. The guest room doesn't seem particularly comfortable and is rather dark. We ordered Antipasto Classico Tuscany, Pinci fatti a mano al Ragu il Cinghiale, Tortelli al Tartufo con funghi and Tiramisu.
The pasta with ragù was good, the tortelli wasn't to our liking, but the mushrooms were good.
The wine list offered a large selection of wines from surrounding wineries, although there were only a few wines by the glass.
My conclusion: It was a good meal, but I won't come back again.

Il locale è bellissimo, rustico, vero, sembra di tornare in dietro nel tempo. La ribollita con le cipolle affogate nell'olio è spettacolare, ho preso un calice di brunello. Era buonissimo e anche abbondante, la carne della fiorentina aveva un sapore spaziale, morbidissima, si tagliava quasi con la forchetta, cottura perfetta, contorno di spinaci e patate veramente super. Unica nota negativa? La piastra rovente su cui è stata presentata la fiorentina. A me non piace mai, mangio la carne quasi cruda, cosi va avanti troppo di cottura in pochissimi secondi, per me sarebbe da abolire. Ma non solo qui, ovunque. Penso che la prossima volta chiederò espressamente di non usare questa tecnica.
