When you enter La Rana, you don't go to eat but to live an experience, among the only historic surviving trattorias. In the middle of nowhere in the Marzaglia countryside of Modena, easily reachable but you only see it when you've already passed it.... and you have to go back. Everything stopped in the 70s, a journey through time. Genuine, informal and trattoria-like environment, the food is the best, guaranteed quantities, unbeatable price-quality. family run, attentive, fast, friendly staff...etc
I don't have any particular recommendations on dishes, you can't go wrong, the menu has been like this for decades, so it's well-explored.

The Frog is always a guarantee.
Excellent traditional food, generous portions, friendly and smiling staff.
I would say almost unbeatable quality/price ratio.

Trattoria of other times, both in terms of environment, allocation, menu, service, etc...
And this is beautiful…!!!
Excellent tortelloni and tagliatelle with meat sauce, I'm sorry but the tortellino isn't up to par (the broth is ok).
I would say good quality tasting of roasts, fried and boiled meats.
Don't try the desserts.
Unfortunately (and I say this because in this type of restaurant it is almost a classic) "embarrassing" wine choice.
I must say that we were a large group for lunch on Sunday.
I would like to come and eat perhaps on a weekday evening, to get further feedback.

Always pleasant to come back here, rustic atmosphere of the past, sometimes noisy, but there are few real trattorias like this left. The food as always excellent.

Historic trattoria where it is possible to taste true Emilian cuisine; tried by chance during a business trip, it left me speechless.
The environment is rustic, lived in but clean and well-kept; the atmosphere is convivial and makes you feel at home. The menu is presented orally and is full of simple dishes, but which enhance the local products.
Since I was with a colleague, we decided to try both the tagliatelle with meat sauce and the lasagna, both fabulous. As a second course, I found the meat rolls and the roast with red potatoes delicious.
Homemade and delicious desserts, both the one made with saiwa gold, chocolate cream and mascarpone, and the trifle.
Very courteous and helpful staff. Unfortunately, restaurants of this type (in which tradition, quality and quantity go hand in hand) are increasingly difficult to find today; I therefore hope that the latter continues like this (handing down recipes and methods of service from generation to generation) because it is a real institution.

Una vera e verace trattoria di campagna,locale un po’ vetusto e fatiscente in certi aspetti; con una cucina molto sincera e senza fronzoli.
Ottimo per una piatto fugaceo.
Servizio non troppo attento e veloce, ma concreto ed esaustivo tutto sommato.
I piatti sono quelli locali, pasta fresca su tutte(ben fatta e ben condita), coniglio molto buono, dolci da rivedere; come il cestino del pane (vecchio e smangiucchiato)
Prezzo nella media, forse un filino alto per quello che offre e come lo offre.
Comodo il parcheggio antistante il locale, sempre pieno.
E’ stato un pranzo veloce, torneremo con più calma a riprovare LA RANA.

Se cercate un posto rustico, informale e con cucina casereccia questo è il posto giusto.
Tipica trattoria emiliana, qui il tempo sembra essersi fermato agli anni 80..e per gli amanti della cucina di una volta è il top.
Nessun menu, ma proposte del giorno dettate a voce dai camerieri..tagliatelle al ragù strabuone, guanciale arrosto morbido che si scioglieva in bocca, faraona niente di eccezionale e un pò deludente..le patate come contorno meritano..zuppa inglese come dolce nella media..
Conto nella media, anzi forse un pelino alto considerato il posto e considerato che non abbiamo preso antipasti (che forse non c'erano perché non ci sono stati nemmeno elencati)..insomma mi aspettavo qualcosa in meno sinceramente.
Comunque da provare per chi non lo conosce, e da tornarci per chi ci è stato.
