12/03/2025: The Vendettari reserve is one of the first three Sicilian reserves. It was created to protect coastal marshes and dunes. Its position and its particular microclimate have made it a real hotel for over 250 species of birds. But its history goes back centuries. Greeks, Arabs, Byzantines, Swabians and Spaniards passed through here, leaving numerous testimonies including catacombs, ancient towers and churches, tuna fisheries, Latomie and other archaeological remains. All in a place of extraordinary biodiversity. But its uniqueness does not stop here, in fact if you stop by the sea you will fill your lungs with pure oxygen. In the seabed of the reserve there are 25 km of posidonia, an extraordinary plant (because it is a plant and not an algae) that releases 15 L of oxygen for every m² of extension.
