There were 8 of us, and I ordered two Bohemian platters. I was amazed by the portions. When I counted them, there weren't even enough slices for everyone... and I was already disappointed. Then I wanted to order a gourmet pizza, which the waitress told me was sold out... isn't a pizzeria running out of pizzas a bit strange? The sliced ​​pizza was very good, even though the portions were a bit small. Usually, when you serve a main course, you should serve side dishes as well. The food quality is good, but the only flaw is the small portions.

The pizza was very good, with fresh vegetables and very tasty sausage. The desserts were a small flaw, nothing special: the babbà/maritozzo was too dry, and the semifreddo lacked flavor.

Over the years, the Roero region, and Canale in particular, has continued a virtuous journey in food and wine. From the historic restaurants in the center of Canale and Monta' in the 1930s to the many trattorias scattered throughout the various hilltop towns near the castles. From Michelin-starred restaurants in Piobesi, Canale, Guarene, and Magliano Alfieri, these restaurants pair perfectly with Arneis, the great native white wine that led to the rebirth of the left Tanaro region. A unique wine in the winemaking landscape, it has found its habitat in the soils rich in marine fossils, enhancing its perfect minerality, and has brought it to the top of national and international winemaking. The decisive contribution of the Enoteca regionale del Roero, which foresightedly believed strongly in the region and its unique landscape, the recognition given to the talented winemakers who have preserved the Ciabot (traditional wine cellars) that today are a hallmark of our hills, and the inclusion of Roero in the UNESCO World Heritage designation, thanks to the many cultural initiatives promoted and the quality, harmony, and elegance that have always characterized our red wines, has given Roero its identity and contributed to its success. A long preamble to describe this restaurant, which, following in the footsteps of Cantinone, the historic pizzeria of our youth and later of Re Artù, has given a signature excellence to the emblematic dish of our beautiful Italy. The owner, with determination, has chosen the challenging path of quality and innovation without forgetting tradition. A beautiful place, especially inside, with warm and elegant wood and numerous uniquely shaped and crafted clocks that tie in with the "fuori tempo" (out of time) sign. There are many delicious dishes to try, from classic pizzas to innovative ones, and the delightful discovery of friciula, the locally known name for fried bread dough paired with cured meats and other local products. A lovely selection of unique and delicious desserts, where the famous Canale peaches are perfectly showcased. A nice selection of beers and wines, including excellent local labels. The staff is extremely kind, professional, and smiling. The service is prompt and very reasonable, considering the quality of the food and the charming atmosphere. Unfortunately, we were short on time and limited ourselves to a Margherita with buffalo mozzarella and a nice red draft beer, but we'll be back soon to try the other specialties, especially the friciula, and the desserts.

30/12/2025: Il Grecale is located on a hill in La Morra, overlooking the surrounding landscape. The view is priceless. The location is meticulously maintained, and nothing is left to chance. The chef offers a choice of 4-, 6-, and 8-course surprise tasting menus (available if all guests choose this type of menu) or an à la carte menu, including dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients. The staff is friendly and helpful. A true treat for both the palate and the eyes. Absolutely worth it. Highly recommended.
