Out Of The Box In Milano

For the past four years, Out of the Box has been my go-to gelato shop for explaining to my friends what great gelato is. My favorite flavors were raw pistachio and raw dark chocolate. A masterful balance of intensity and delicacy, graininess (for the pistachio) and creaminess (for the chocolate). I'd never tasted anything like it, and I think those flavors will never be forgotten. Unfortunately, however, yesterday I returned to enjoy the same delicious medium cup, and the gelato wasn't the same. I met the owner, who kindly confirmed the chocolate recipe had been changed. I'm just as sorry to have lost those flavors. For me, Out of the Box was the gelato shop where I could indulge in the best gelato I've ever tasted, and for that I was willing to pay the obvious premium compared to the competition. Today, I don't think I'd pay it again, even if the gelato is still good.

Nothing to say: the whole-wheat ice cream is very good! But it's impossible that in the three years I've lived here, the only things that've changed are the prices (increased) and the portions (decreased). And seeing an ice cream maker scooping out ice cream with a scoop is like a pizza maker rolling out pizza dough with a machine. A little creativity and initiative! Change up these flavors every now and then.

Came to these ice cream shops by chance, no regrets. I had a pistachio scoop, a lemon one, a whole coconut one. I have never felt this feeling, a pistachio with an intensity and power equaling the original taste. A lemon with a lightness and a perfect taste. A grainy coconut but just as delicious. Servers with a kindness and benevolence to make women fall, too bad I am not one of them 😂

Simply the best gelato in Milan. The quality of the gelato is unmatched, and even the cone is in a class of its own, demonstrating the attention to detail. Definitely worth a try!

Quality gluten-free ice cream. Prices are higher than the local average.

We went for gelato and met the very kind owner. Out of the Box gelato is delicious, with meticulous attention to flavors and ingredients. The flavors are unexpected and surprising; my favorites are undoubtedly the excellent marron glaces, zabaglione, pistachio, and crema bolognese. The lemon flavor, which I usually never get, is delicious. We tried several flavors, and the owner guided us through the selection. It was an experience I recommend to anyone who loves gelato that's rich and doesn't just taste like sugar!

There's always a line, but that's certainly intentional. The gelato is good, but I can't tell how much more artisanal it is compared to competitors in the surrounding area. I'm not crazy about the raw gelato, but that's just a matter of personal preference and doesn't affect the review. The bottom line is that a cone with two rather small scoops costs €3.80. It seems excessive to me, but for the "nightlife kids" this is probably not the least of their problems. The cone is really narrow at the top. Two scoops (even if smaller than average) must be positioned almost vertically, and shortly afterward the gelato naturally begins to drip. If they used a "standard" cone, at least this inconvenience wouldn't exist, but the impression is that they deliberately wanted to be different from their competitors at the expense of practicality. It's advisable to buy a cup instead of a cone, but the cost and quantity remain the same.

The ice cream is delicious. I ordered mocha (an intensely flavored mascarpone with coffee and chocolate chunks) and pistachio. It's a gluten-free place with all gluten-free cones. The perfect paradise for celiacs. It's a must. Price: €4

Wat een heerlijk ijs verkopen ze hier, veel uitgesproken smaken waarbij ze ook vegan aanbieden die misschien nog wel lekkerder is. Het ijs is heel romig en smeuiig en zowel in cup als hoorn te verkrijgen; €2 per bolletje als is het denk ik iets minder in hoeveelheid wat je ergens anders krijgt maar 2 smaken is meer dan genoeg. Voordeel eraan is dat je gewoon 2x per dag kunt gaan als deze ijszaak bij je om de hoek zit zoals bij ons :). Helaas zitten zij niet in het centrale deel van Milaan maar mocht je op de Corso Buenos Aires lopen dan is een bezoekje meer dan de moeite waard!
