Ordered well in advance here is the raw fish. Amazing!!!!! Absolutely low prices, wonderful staff to say the least! In short, my TOP fish restaurant in Viareggio. Thanks again so much.

I usually stop at Osteria Piazza Grande to drink an Italian craft beer. There's also a large sign outside that says "Beer Shop." There are four beers, mostly on tap, plus a few in bottles. The food also smells delicious and the shop is busy on weekends. But I've never eaten here. I like the very friendly and authentic service.

The place has existed since 1961. I had been there about twenty years ago in the previous location near the church of Sant'Andrea. The place has completely changed with more refined furnishings. Part of the place is occupied by a long pub-style counter used for tasting craft beers, another obsession of the owners of the place. The cuisine is the same as always, simple, Viareggio style but with a good dose of imagination. You will hardly find the juicy trabaccolare, the flavorless spaghetti with clams that are so popular in most restaurants in Viareggio. The menu changes once a week and is always based on research and imagination. The proposals are not many and can also be enjoyed with the tasting menu which for €35 offers three appetizers chosen by the chef, two first courses of your choice, a very rich fried fish, prawns, calamari and battered vegetables, a dessert, wine (a bottle of the house one for every two people), water and coffee. The portions are generous. Certainly worthy of note are the spaghetti with prawns in Martini cocktail sauce (truly original, tasty with pasta cooked al dente), the homemade tagliatelle with squid ink and white fish, the croquettes of croaker and dried tomato and potatoes (one of the starters) and mixed fried fish. Fast and professional service. Very family environment. The owners' daughter is truly an affable, kind person and ready to make any observation or advice in order to put the customer at ease. The limited wine options are interesting with more than honest mark-ups. Instead of the house wine I opted, paying a reasonable difference, for the tasty, fragrant and interesting Vermentino di Gallura Funtanaliras oro.

Il locale esiste dal 1961. Io c’era stato circa una ventina di anni fa nella precedente location vicina alla chiesa di Sant’Andrea. Il locale è completamente cambiato con arredi più curati. Una parte del locale è occupato da un lungo bancone tipo pub utilizzato per le degustazioni di birre artigianali, altro pallino dei titolari del locale. La cucina è quella di sempre, semplice, viareggina ma con una buona dose di fantasia. Difficilmente troverete le trabaccolare sugose, gli spaghetti alle vongole che non hanno sapore che spopolano in buona buona parte dei locali viareggini. Il menù cambia una volta alla settimana ed è sempre improntato sulla ricerca e sulla fantasia. Le proposte non sono tantissime e possono anche essere gustate con il menù degustazione che a € 35 propone tre antipasti scelti dallo chef, due primi a scelta, una ricchissima frittura di paranza, di gamberi, calamari e verdure pastellate, un dolce, vino (una bottiglia ogni due persone di quello della casa), acqua e caffè. Le porzioni sono abbondanti. Degni sicuramente di nota gli spaghetti con gamberi in salsa Martini cocktail (davvero originali, gustosi con la pasta cotta al dente), le tagliatelle fatte in casa al nero di seppia e pesce bianco, le crocchette di ombrina e pomodoro secco e patate (uno degli antipasti) e il fritto misto di pesce. Servizio veloce e professionale. Ambiente molto familiare. La figlia dei titolari è davvero una persona affabile, gentile e pronta a qualsiasi osservazione o consiglio pur di mettere a proprio agio il cliente. Interessanti le limitate le proposte dei vini con ricarichi più che onesti. Al posto del vino della casa ho optato, pagando una ragionevole differenza, per il sapido, profumato e interessante vermentino di Gallura Funtanaliras oro.

Sunny Saturday... delirium on the seafront. We walk inside Viareggio and find the tavern. Quiet place, frequented by locals (and that's already a guarantee). Delicious food, friendliness and fair bill. Well done!

13/07/2024: I want to be honest: initially I was a little skeptical. Then confident of the average reviews and seeing that many people, apparently local, were sitting there, I took courage. And I'll tell you about my experience. First of all, very kind staff. Despite the reserved tables and our failure to book, they managed to accommodate us in the best possible way. We ordered two first courses (spaghetti with seafood and pici with sea cicada pesto) and then continued with the turbot. It was all great, but the turbot was truly spectacular! It is a delicate fish, you need to know how to cook it well. Especially when you make it in the oven with potatoes and cherry tomatoes (Isola style). The risk of ruining the meat is high. And instead it was really well cooked. Then a focus on the bitters at the end meant that we really fell in love with this place. I will happily return when I pass through Viareggio again. Advised.

31/05/2024: Went there 3 times in 4 days, ate something twice, it was perfect every time. My highlight was the calzone...you have to eat it, but the lasagne was also really good! Absolutely okay in terms of price, menu also in German and English. We'll definitely be back! Greetings from Austria 🫶🏻
31/05/2024: I just finished eating here and it was excellent! The gentleman who attended our table was so kind and very attentive to our needs, he also spoke English which was a big plus! I had a Pizza Capricciosa and it was amazing! I definitely recommend this place to anyone who was looking for a place to eat that is away from the business of other restaurants!
