Osteria la Pignata In Matera

A very nice place, located close to the historic center of Matera, near the entrance to the pedestrian area; typical local architecture, tastefully decorated, clean, and quite spacious. The staff is welcoming and friendly, young and well-trained. They quickly seat you and introduce you to the house specialties. The menu features a variety of typical dishes from Matera, including pignata and pignatella. The wine list is good. The ingredients are good. The dishes, well-prepared and presented, in my opinion, the "more elaborate" ones lack a distinctive touch that would highlight their authenticity. The cheese selection is excellent, and the appetizers are good overall. I had the opportunity to try the pignatella; it's a dish that needs to be savored with patience 🌬️. I really liked the flavor. I would have liked a little more meat and even a few pieces of sausage in addition to the crumbled one, but it was still very good. I really enjoyed dipping the dough that serves as the lid for the pignata into the broth at the end. For dessert, we tried the "sporcamusso," which was also delicious: delicate puff pastry, a soft creamy filling with balanced flavors. The only flaw was that the pastry was quite warm, while the creamy filling was cold, even lukewarm. But at that hour, it was nice not to get your face dirty with boiling cream. The quality/price ratio was decent, within the limits of what the market offers, but overall, the place has room for improvement. I will return to try the Pignata. Overall, I recommend going, especially in the evening. Given the proximity to the historic center, after eating, a stroll along the main street of Matera by night was a pleasant experience.

The service staff is very friendly and attentive. The portion is very large and I am very full. Especially the chili oil with pasta is really delicious 🥺

We had dinner for four (two couples), an excellent experience that we'll repeat as soon as possible. The restaurant is welcoming, bright, and quiet, even when busy, as it offers several seating areas. We were on a mezzanine floor at the back, where Massimo welcomed and assisted us with expertise and kindness. All the staff are very helpful and friendly, and they create a great atmosphere. The dinner was excellent: the first course was spaghetti alla Giuanin, the second course was veal tagliata, truly well-made and presented, and the house specialty, a Pignata, which was very, very good, a true experience of taste and flavor.

I didn't eat the pignata, the food was excellent. I recommend the sporcamuss dessert, it's a spectacle.

The welcome is very good, the team takes good care of you. The food is good, but this restaurant is a tourist factory. It's good for groups but not for individuals.

Traditional restaurant with all kinds of dishes, including pasta and pizza. If you like lamb, try La Pignata, a lamb stew with potatoes and cheese covered in pizza dough. Very reasonable prices and very friendly service.

Traditional Italian food in a cosy, authentic venue. Typical primi and secondi piatti, and pizza (only in the evening). Each dish was of good quality, decent size, and reasonably priced. The service was exceptional - they have both Italian and English speaking waiters. Very friendly and casual. PS. Our kids forgot a backpack and one of the waiters ran two streets to return it to us - I was very positively surprised by his kindness. Thanks!

Cet endroit vaut le détour ! On y mange très bien : goûtez à la pignata, ce fut une belle découverte pour nous. Le personnel est également très chaleureux.

Quattro coppie di Roma in gita a Matera. Cena perfetta per quantità e qualità. Da segnalare soprattutto la pignata, un piatto .che non conoscevamo e che ci ha fatto innamorare. Servizio professionale, arricchito dalla giovane simpatia del cameriere Momo. Volevamo fare il bis la sera seguente ma era tutto prenotato. Torneremo sicuramente a Matera ( SPLENDITA) e alla Pignata.
