03/03/2025: In Trani to train, in Trani to taste. The place was recommended to us by a friend on a diet, who does not give up good food when invited. At the end of the commitments, the direction was now decided. The city center was the destination. Once we reached the Taverna Portanova, we had some slight difficulty finding parking. The location features stone walls and a wooden ceiling. On the back wall a reproduction of the ancient city of Trani which, overall, gives the impression of entering a place from another era. Welcoming and seated, we asked for further information on what was on the menu. The reading had tickled the idea of Paella, but it would have been better to warn beforehand. Paella preparation times are not suitable for those whose time is limited. We opt for a mixed starter “Portanova”. Catalan-style prawns, browned octopus salad with potatoes, fried calamari, morsels of mozzarella and ricotta, tuna tartare with caper tips, white parmigiana with freshly grilled aubergines, not classically fried. Accompanied by the inevitable basket of bread and taralli. Delightful!
First we enjoyed troccoli with seafood and cavatelli with monkfish, rocket and cherry tomatoes. Accustomed to shared tasting, to my palate, the latter had an edge. Nice experience, definitely recommended.
23/02/2025: Excellent and fresh food. The house starter is plentiful and very good. The linguine with clams and cicadas is a riot of flavour. A fish restaurant that I recommend without any doubt. Quality and honest price.
