A pleasant and delicious discovery for us VEGANS too (we're new to Friuli, by the way)!!!
Looking at it from the outside, it immediately reminded me of my grandparents, the timeless rustic style that captivates and warms the heart❤!!!
Clean and cared for in every detail, it feels like you've gone back in time... with the fireplace lit, beautiful, well-furnished rooms, the professionalism of the owner and staff is unparalleled... in fact, they're ready to advise and clarify every detail for those with intolerances, celiac disease, or vegans like us.
We ordered delicious barley and bean soup, mixed salad, delicious potato chips, steamed vegetables, homemade giardiniera, an excellent organic Friulian, and to finish, the friendly owner offered us vegan pear ice cream drowned in pear liqueur, a true delight that won us over!!!
Next time I'll also try the polenta!!!
We will definitely return to this relaxing, rustic place!!
Highly recommended!!!

Osteria di Villafredda is one of those places that is recommended to you by many, almost devoutly, and when you finally decide to try it, you immediately understand why. After two intense days of conferences, seminars, and meetings with school administrators, my friends Vincenzo, Martina, and my son Filippo chose to conclude our Friulian experience at this highly recommended restaurant, convinced that good food could be the perfect blend of culture, local tradition, and friendship. And they were right.
As soon as you enter, the atmosphere captivates: the stone walls, dark wood ceiling, soft lighting, and attention to detail create a feeling of authentic warmth. You can sense the history of a place that has been listed among the historic restaurants of Friuli Venezia Giulia and recognized by the 2020 Michelin Guide. The kitchen, which can be glimpsed from the entrance through a clear glass window, reveals an impressive order and cleanliness: gleaming bricks, polished tools, and a sense of precision that speaks of love and respect for what is done.
The welcome is kind, sincere, without unnecessary formality, but with the courtesy of those who treat dining as an art. You can feel that every guest here is welcomed like a returning friend, not a passing customer.
We began with a mixed house antipasto: carefully selected Friulian cured meats and cheeses, including cured lardo pancettato, local salami, San Daniele prosciutto, and melted Montasio with a crispy crust, accompanied by delicate giardiniera and small artichoke flans with hot fondue. A triumph of authentic, genuine, and profound flavors, reflecting the identity of this land.
Then came one of the signature dishes of Friulian cuisine, frico, with its golden crust and stringy center of potatoes and cheese: simple and perfect, it represents the synthesis of a tradition that combines simple ingredients with rich flavors. A dish that tastes of home, of burning stoves, and of conviviality.
For my first course, I chose potato gnocchi with game, with their intense and lingering aroma, a dish that smelled of forest and red wine, with an ideal consistency and a balance of flavors reminiscent of autumn.
Among the main courses, the fried chicken legs were a masterpiece: crispy on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside, served with potatoes in tecia. And then there were the veal meatballs with Treviso radicchio and polenta: a dish that combines bitter and sweet, earth and tradition, in a perfectly balanced embrace.
To conclude the dinner, a dessert worthy of a signature finale: apple strudel with cinnamon ice cream and red berry coulis, served with a grace that spoke of dedication. Then, a glass of Amaro Nonino, slowly enjoyed by candlelight, accompanied a moment of true serenity, filled with smiles, memories, and gratitude.
Osteria di Villafredda is a place that combines elegance and substance, where every dish speaks of the region and those who love it. It is a house of taste where nothing is left to chance: impeccable cleanliness, quality ingredients, expert staff, and an atmosphere that envelops everything with discretion and warmth.
A dinner that was not just a gastronomic experience, but a journey into Friulian culture and the authenticity of human relationships. I leave this place with the feeling of having experienced something true, profoundly beautiful, and human.
Five full stars, without hesitation.
For the cuisine, for the care, for the kindness.
Because Osteria di Villafredda is not simply a restaurant: it is a way of understanding taste.
