Osteria Del Matto In Spoleto

Fantastic lunch. The set menu is a real plus in a place like this. Home-made flavors, tradition. The chef is wonderful, coming over during lunch/dinner to make sure everything is fine. Very welcoming location. I absolutely recommend it.

Positive experience last night. Excellent food, super fair prices, very friendly owner who tells the real story of Spoleto. It will become my regular stop. I recommend it to everyone.

Everything was delicious. We had the set menu as a couple: bruschetta, a first course, and a grilled meat. (1 sausage, 1 piece of chicken, and 1 rosticciana) totaled €72 with a liter of house wine and a bottle of water. Last night, we ate à la carte, a few meters away, and had strangozzi with porcini mushrooms, a soup, a porcini fillet, a portion of melted scamorza cheese with truffle, chicory, a coffee, and a liqueur. I recommend. Very good cuisine, be careful, you will find the crazy one 😅 we will return just to be in his company and taste their delicious dishes.

It's not a place for everyone; Osteria del Matto is a truly small and unique place, with bright lights, paintings, and music. They offer a set menu with an appetizer, first course, second course, and side dishes (wine not included). The menu varies from season to season. In our case, they explained to us that the menu is usually served in staggered order: we had excellent sausage, potatoes with gorgonzola and wonderful onions, bruschetta with oil and garlic, steak, chickpeas, porcini mushrooms, and then pasta all'amatriciana. We were served promptly, the staff were friendly, the music was great, and the truly small kitchen produced one dish better than the next. The celiac person at our table was offered an alternative for every dish they couldn't eat—very kind and respectful.

We went to Osteria del Matto in Spoleto for lunch on Sunday and had a truly excellent experience. We had called a week before to inquire because there were five of us in our group, and one person is celiac. They were immediately very kind and clear: they can prepare gluten-free dishes, but they cannot guarantee the complete absence of cross-contamination, as it's a home-style restaurant with a fixed menu and a small space. This wasn't a problem for us, as it's an intolerance without the need for strict non-cross-contamination, so we booked. Once we arrived, they welcomed us warmly and showed us to our seats very kindly. They immediately served gluten-free bread to the person with celiac disease, and for each course—antipasto, first course, and second course—they carefully prepared a dedicated dish, separate from the rest. The first course was gluten-free pasta, and the second course, as per house tradition, was a delicious grilled meat. The place is very welcoming, simple, and quaint, and the staff was truly kind and attentive throughout the lunch. We had a great time and the food was really excellent.

Great food, great atmosphere, and friendship going all the way back to 2003 Spoleto Music Festival of Two Worlds. I highly recommend!
