Unbelievably beautiful food. Just delicious. Friendly owner too, made us feel home. Hand made and fresh produce sourced locally from farms, like their cheeses they use in their tortellino. Which my wife had and was divine. It has been my favourite Trattoria in all of Italy, in my travels so far. Now I'm not in Modena, I miss it. Great value too, nothing too expensive, no wonder it's constantly full. Love it, love it, love it ❤️ 😍

Magnificent location, magnificent staff, magnificent food! Entering Ermes feels like you've been transported straight to a restaurant from another era. The dishes are few, but expertly crafted. The ingredients are carefully sourced. Everything is absolutely perfect!

I say this a lot but this was genuinely one of the best meals I've ever eaten. I look back at pictures of this every single day and it makes my mouth water. Too bad I am across the Atlantic because I could eat here every single day for the rest of my life. Just incredible.

First of all, great food! Thank you for that. I never post 'bad' reviews, but this experience unfortunately called for one. I read in previous comments on reviews that you like honest feedback, so you know where you can improve your restaurant. First, I would like to point out the unprofessional service. We (2 non-italian speaking people) chose to sit outside but after our neighbours started smoking which is of course not the restaurants fault, but I asked if it was possible to sit inside. The waiter with mustache went inside to check this. The other waiter started to ask which drinks we wanted, I tried to explain friendly in English that we wanted to wait with our order as we potentially would change places. This would be easier for everyone. Then he said something in Italian to our neighbours which made them laugh, this made us feel incredibly uncomfortable. We felt we were being laughed at. Probably this is lesson 1 in hospitality not to do this. After that, the waiter kept being unfriendly. Luckily the other waiter (with mustache) was polite enough. We ordered 1/4 liter of wine which was forgotten, after I friendly asked if we could get the wine we got 1/2 liter. As we didn't want to be "the annoying" clients (we already felt we weren't really welcome) we didn't say anything about it and maybe thought it was to make up the situation. At the end we paid for the 1/2 liter... Thank you for the female employee who I guess worked in the kitchen. You made our experience a bit better. And we would like to point out that the restaurant (interior) and food were good, its just service does so much for a place...

This little trattoria in the heart of Modena serves excellent food. Stepping into it you feel as going back in time and experiencing traditional style of Italian service and food. I highly recommend the donkey ragu, it was one of the best tagliatelle I had in my life and it’s enough reason to go back to Modena. I recommend you make a booking if you wanna visit this trattoria!

Starting from the assumption that I'm a Modenese who grew up between vineyards and cooking, and for work I eat and drink Emilian cuisine practically every day, I can give my opinion. Tonight we had a birthday party at Ermes, a historic restaurant in the center of Modena. Second time back since the change in management, the first time pleasantly surprised, and tonight I had confirmation. Two first courses worth 10! Tortelloni filled with ricotta cheese, butter, and sage, with a filling that makes you understand the meaning of quality ricotta, and Tagliatelle with ragù which, sorry Mom, but the kids do better. Two second courses: Braised Guancialino, so tender you could eat it without a bite! A savory and sweet flavor that calls for another drop of Lambrusco. Tagliata was well-cooked, but not my all-time favorite (oh, I don't like grilled meat, damn it!), and potatoes to accompany both second courses, which make me soar (like my cholesterol). The house wines (by the bottle) were good! Other excellent Lambrusco selections! Coffee, amaro, and house grappa made well! I won't tell you the bill (really low) because they definitely gave a discount. Definitely worth it! Well done guys.

Una delle trattorie più antiche di modena dove il buon cibo modenese viene celebrato degnamente. Il personale è gentile e paziente, ragazzi giovani come il nuovo proprietario che ha mantenuto fedelmente lo stile di Ermes. Piatti abbondanti e fatti con cura. Come sempre la scelta varia di giorno in giorno. L'apertura è sempre su due turni prenotabili. Adesso fa apertura anche alcune sere la settimana. Prezzi veramente buoni pur essendo in pieno centro.

28/08/2025: We ate so well we came back the next day! The lasagna here is a must-try, and the homemade pasta is excellent in general. The staff was very friendly, and the prices were fair. We'll definitely be back on our next trip to Modena!

Antica Trattoria La Busa

23/09/2025: We found it by chance as we needed a lunch stop, and it was a wonderful surprise. Excellent food, very kind and friendly staff.
21/09/2025: We stopped by here on our way back from Tuscany. From the outside, it looks like a rustic trattoria. The food is good and well-prepared, but the waitress is incredibly rude, and doesn't justify the €3 cover charge per person, as well as the generally high prices for the place it APPEARS to be. It's a shame.
