The "Orto" vegetarian restaurant is located within the medieval walls of Gubbio, in a historical context that could recall ancient atmospheres, but which instead surprises with its modern elegance. As soon as you cross the threshold, you breathe in an air of refined minimalism, a sober and natural elegance that is reflected in the furnishings, made with materials such as wood, iron and plaster. Nothing is artificial or out of place, and the arrangement of the tables, well spaced from each other, guarantees an intimate and private experience. It is an environment that invites calm, reflection and enjoying the moment, in total serenity. The restaurant rooms, different from each other but consistent in style, maintain this harmonious and refined atmosphere. A small suggestion, perhaps, would be to integrate some natural green elements, such as live plants, to further emphasize the connection with nature and the proposed menu.
The kitchen was a revelation. We started with the baked egg, accompanied by a cheese fondue and truffle flakes. A sublime dish, where each ingredient blended perfectly with the others, creating a balance of flavors that immediately hit the mark.
Followed by lasagnetta with carasau bread,
a pie of broccoli, Trasimeno beans and mushrooms, enclosed in a crunchy sheet of carasau bread. The presentation was almost artistic, resembling the shape of a rose or artichoke. The dish, delicate but intense, allowed each flavor to be distinguished, giving a refined tasting experience.
The crunch of the carasau gave a touch of diversity, breaking the monotony of a classic pie. To conclude, always a cake but this time sweet with a warm pistachio centre, accompanied by ice cream, to end our meal in the best possible way. A balanced and delicious dessert, perfect to conclude a high-level meal.
The service was impeccable: the waiters were always attentive and present without ever being intrusive. Our choice of bubbles, a Pinot Noir, proved to be perfect to accompany the courses, further enhancing the culinary experience.
As for the price, the 50 euros spent, including tip, are absolutely in line with the quality offered. Each dish told a story of seasonality and attention to the territory, with ingredients that, for the most part, probably came from local producers. This commitment to km0 and sustainability is reflected in every aspect of the menu, except for a few small exceptions, such as the pistachio in the dessert.
In conclusion, "Orto" is much more than a restaurant: it is a place where quality, elegance and sustainability come together to offer an unforgettable experience. I was fully satisfied and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a moment of haute vegetarian cuisine. I will definitely come back.
