We’ve been coming to Ortgia 18 years but found the average restaurant offering inspiring and had largely given up, opting to cook dinner at home, and have breakfast out.
Happily, Nostos opened near by and we made a booking. The restaurant is decorated to give a lovely intimate atmosphere with subtle lighting and Bossa Nova music playing. The staff were attentive and kind.
My dining partner had a selection of arancini and fried squid with fries, while I had caponata followed by sea bream. All was delicately prepared and bursting with flavour. Obviously made with passion and love. The cannolo and lemon sorbet rounded off the meal. The house white wine was very nice.
A great dining experience for a reasonable price. We’re looking forward to bringing our guests here. Totally recommend

We had dinner two nights ago. It tastes divine, I had stuffed squid with an orange aftertaste, never tasted like this, to date the best I have ever tasted. Courteous waiters, quiet place. Absolutely worth going there. Congratulations again to the chef

When the chef comes out of the kitchen to check on the guests you know you are in for a treat. And an amazing treat this was. Give Giovanni his Michelin Star already! This was the best dinner of our Sicilian trip, and in all honesty of the past few years. Every dish was an explosion of flavor. Every dish was beautifully presented and made us excited for the next. Nostos Bistrot is hospitality mixed with talent. We will reccomend this place to everyone who is going to Sicily. Bravo Giovanni and Michela!

In this place, in the alleys of Ortigia, spade and enchants, Giovanni. « Be wary of a skinny chef »is his motto.
He acts as a guide for us with the faithful Franco between hot ricottas from the Basiledelle farm at 9.30 am and special cured meats from De Pascalis in Palazzolo Acreide.
In the evening he welcomes us, after the "different tragedy" of Leo Muscato, into his little kingdom.
And he says it like this:
Caponatina inside a shortcrust pastry wafer, beccafico sardines, roasted red tuna bacon on a cream of spiced carrots, Syracusan mussel soup, crudité with orange scampi and Portopalo purple prawn, arancine mix, potato balls, crouton with vegetable cream and marinated anchovies, swordfish garganelli and pistachio pesto, grouper ravioli with citrus pesto and fresh sea bream.
The soul emerges from it like pure water from the source
Arethusa. You are Greek, Carthaginian, Sicilian, Roman, you are from the warm African wind.
You're happy.
« Ubi bene, ibi patria »
Thank you Giovanni, man of the African Mediterranean, culinary champion, of a "splendidly" city
atrocious."

I have had the pleasure of eating at the Nostos Bistrot twice during a wonderful stay in Siracusa.
Clearly my feedback is purely subjective, but I hope my all round extremely positive experience will inspire to visit such a great place!
The restaurant is in the very center of Ortigia, along one of its narrow and characteristic street, at the same time, away from the touristic noise, allowing you to fully enjoy the experience with all of your senses.
First of all, you appreciate the staff’s professional kindness that makes you feel at home with a classy touch that has nothing to envy to starred restaurants.
You then encounter libations and food. I have had mussel soup “a la Siracusa fashion”, anchovies and sardines “a la beccafico”. Here the chef gives his best with a blend of flavours and spices that exalt the taste of excellent fresh fish products. The main course is music for the palate: whether oven cooked or boiled in a sea of vegetables broth, fish is particularly fresh, tasty and very satisfying.
Desserts are a celebration of the best Sicilian tradition (eg cannoli with ricotta cheese, pistachio mousse) with a touch of creativity such as in the limoncello tiramisu.
All of the above is accompanied by a wide choice of Sicilian wine excellence.
Cherry on the cake is the interaction with the Giovanni, the chef, whose affable manners frame and exalt his stories about life and cooking.
A must visit if you are in Siracusa, especially if you want to taste the best while feeling in your grandmother’s kitchen.

A gem that is tucked away and well worth the visit. Perfect examples of local recipes, using fresh and locally farmed produce. The owner-chef has a motto ‘never trust a skinny chef’ and lives up to the character - he takes his food very seriously. We felt it’s great value for money too. We’ll be back. Enjoy!

We were recommended this place by an acquaintance. The dinner courses were recommended to us by the chef, who proposed a menu consisting of several starters and a first course. Everything was plentiful and delicious! The service was also impeccable.
I highly recommend this place to anyone who is in Ortigia!
