This is meant to be a better-than-average restaurant, so the expectations are a bit higher. The "Risotto alla milanese con ossobuco" was really good. There is nothing to complain about it. The meat was tender and flavourful and the rice was balancing perfectly with it. The "Controfiletto di Black Angus" didn't meet my expectations. The meat was juicy but the tenderness and flavor was not there for a medium-rare that was requested.
The service was not bad but it feels a bit "rushed" and not attentive.
We booked through WhatsApp, so there was no problem in finding a place.

I had a very nice meal there - restaurant chosen based on the reviews so it was pleasant to see that the reviews were not wrong. A very good risotto Milanese with ossobuco. The restaurant had a very cool decor inside. Staff are attentive. Very good overall.

I visited Il Piccolo Milano a few nights ago, and I must say the experience left a truly wonderful impression.
As soon as I entered, I immediately sensed a very welcoming atmosphere: the place is small, as the name suggests, but meticulously detailed and features a blend of classic Milanese style and a few modern touches. It truly gave me the feeling of an authentic place, not a "fake" tourist spot, but still elegant.
The service was one of its strong points: the staff were kind, smiling, and always attentive without being intrusive. I felt looked after from start to finish, which is not always the case.
Regarding the food, I chose to focus on typical Milanese dishes, and I didn't regret it: I tried the risotto with ossobuco, and it was truly flavorful, well-cooked, and carefully presented. The cotoletta alla milanese was also excellent, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. You can tell the cuisine is rooted in tradition, but with a certain attention to the quality of the ingredients.
The prices are slightly above average, but considering the area and the overall quality, I found them quite reasonable. It's not your typical budget place, but it's not over the top for what it offers.
If I really had to find a small flaw, I'd say the space is limited, and when the place is full, it can get a bit noisy, but nothing that really ruined the evening.
Overall, it was a very positive experience: an ideal restaurant if you want to try typical Milanese dishes in a refined atmosphere with good service. I would gladly return, perhaps to try other dishes on the menu.

We made a rather spontaneous reservation at Il Piccolo in Milan about 45 minutes in advance and got a table without any trouble, which was very pleasant.
Overall, the visit was okay, but nothing particularly memorable. For our starter, we had the vitello tonnato, which tasted good, although the portion was rather small. For our main courses, we chose the tagliatelle al ragù (Bolognese) and the braised beef with polenta. Both dishes were well-prepared, classically Italian, and without any major surprises.
The wine list offers a decent selection at fair prices; most glasses cost between 8 and 12 euros, which is quite reasonable for Milan.
In conclusion: A good, uncomplicated restaurant for a spontaneous visit, with solid food and fair prices, even if it doesn't leave a lasting culinary impression.
