Lovely setting and good food, but disappointing service. The dining room is beautiful, ideal for a romantic evening. My partner and I both had a fillet steak and pasta, both were good, his wild boar not as great as a local trattoria for a lot less. Yet, the prices are clearly hiked throughout and aimed at tourists who want to spend big, and who will flock to this place regardless. All I can overlook somewhat if it wasn’t for the service throughout. It was lacklustre, with one short haired male waiter really abrupt and dismissive. For these prices a far better service is a must, but, the reviews have long said this. This places prints money and they’re sadly not for addressing this issue. The host at the start and end however was lovely, which helped redeem the experience a smidgen. Would only recommend if you want a stellar room, but stick to the pasta only as the steaks are an eye-gouge for what they are. Would not return 👎

You can read everyone's reviews about the food. To summarize, quite good, but you pay for it. My real issue was the request for tips. I'm no tourist and this is the first place in Italy in years that I have been to that requested a tip. They even put a box on your table to put a tip in. And the service in no way justified it. I had missing food items. A lack of responsiveness. At one point, we had to grab the waiter that was serving a different table. And they still wanted a tip. You have to understand that Italy pays restaurant workers proper wages. Healthcare is not tied to employment. And Italy maintains a particular level of service. Where too little is not tolerated and too much is invasive to the guest. La Giostra should know better. You're just taking advantage of the myriad of American tourists who are dining there. That's it. It's gross.

We were booked into the restaurant at 11pm since earlier reservations weren’t available by the time we came to book. We arrived and were told to wait until our table was ready. This was fine except you wait at the bar and we felt a bit obliged to get a drink while we waited there. The bar staff were knowledgeable, polite and friendly however. The restaurant is definitely pretty so the atmosphere is nice. We even got a board of starters to try on the house which was a great surprise and the bruschetta was particularly nice and crispy. My partner ordered the filet which he said was really good. It would be far too rare for me but I know many people love it that way so that was excellent for him. I ordered the pear ravioli as I wanted to try something new and it really did feel like an experience. It was rich in every single way. The pear filling was sweet and creamy and the sauce on top was buttery and cheesy. As a main meal though I did struggle with it a bit as it was just so heavy in its richness. I actually only managed two and a bit before my stomach started doing flips and I couldn’t eat anymore. I think as a smaller starter I would recommend it but for me it’s a little sickly and didn’t feel I had a proper meal. I also felt almost a little nauseous after so I couldn’t get a dessert.

A must visit for a Florentine steak while in Florence!! Beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere and even better food. Highly recommend

Wow, one of the best restaurants we've ever been to. Amazing, great, slow food restaurant with an amazing wine list. Florence steak, out of this world!

This is a beautiful restaurant. My passion fruit vodka martini was excellent. The amuse bouche of mixed appetizers was delicious, particularly the warm chicken liver pate on crostini. Our generously served appetizer of steamed octopus was wonderful, as was the tagliatelle with boar and the penne in a creamy roasted tomato sauce. The hostess was very gracious. Our main waiter was neither friendly nor gracious, and fairly ignored us after taking our order while fawning over a table behind us. There were 2 other wait staff who fortunately did step in to clear dishes and bring us our check. The tables are packed very closely together, making conversation difficult. As the restaurant filled to capacity the noise level became worse. There are so many great restaurants in Florence. I would not return to this one
