We stumbled upon it almost by accident, just passing through. We ordered a platter of cured meats, which I must say was good. The osso buco was a bit less so, as it was burnt, which meant it tasted the same. The pici with ragù were enjoyable.
Overall, it was good, but I wouldn't go back on purpose.

A small but very traditional place, both for the food and, especially, the beers: the manager, Silvio, is an expert beer taster. He can provide information on dozens of different origins and therefore recommend dishes based on customers' preferences and chosen dishes. The dishes are of excellent quality.

Small restaurant serving typical local dishes.
The owner is very friendly and approachable.
Excellent burrata, delicious meatballs, and even the mutton arrosticini, but the pici al cintasenese with wild fennel are out of this world!

Nice place with polite staff, the pici with breadcrumbs were very good while the one with garlic was nothing more than pasta with tomato sauce, I wouldn't recommend it.

On a recent visit to Montepulciano we stopped into La Bottega Matta, twice. The first stop was on our way from Rome. We had not yet reached our hotel and wanted to freshen up with a snack. What a lucky find!
If you enjoy fresh local beer and delicious food, this spot is a must. Great staff and great beer! Pro tip, order the Cinta Senese. It's out of this world!
I can't wait to come back.

Yummy find! Great food, fab beers and lovely service. Had cut meats - of course - and some homemade paste 😋😋 my belly was happy. Paired with some craft beer. Yum!!

I prefer to call it a tavern with a beer bar, strictly craft and of course, quality.
Whenever I'm in the area, I don't hesitate to stop in, with a reservation, of course, as seating is limited.
The food is straightforward and fairly local, with a few slight diversions, but it's good quality and always satisfying.
And then there's Silvio, the host, who certainly doesn't go unnoticed.
