I returned to breathe the soul of Livorno in a place that surprised me: La Barcarola. From the first moment, you can feel a special atmosphere. The entrance already tells something unique: no flashy sign, no window that attracts attention. To enter you have to ring, as if you were crossing the threshold of an exclusive club, known only by those who really know where to look for quality. It is clear that here there is no need to be noticed: the reputation of the place is such that it speaks for itself.
The elegant rooms and the splendid veranda terrace, where the cool microclimate offers a regenerating break even on a late morning in a hot June, create the ideal context to experience a lunch that is not just a meal, but a true moment of pleasure.
The dish that struck me the most - and which in my opinion represents the very essence of this restaurant - is undoubtedly the cacciucco. Here it is not only good: it is extraordinary. Dense, rich, fragrant, prepared with excellent quality fish and seafood that seems to have just come out of the sea. Every spoonful is a journey into the authentic flavors of the Livorno tradition, with that deep and tasty sauce that invites you to mop up the last drop. It is a dish that excites, that tells a story, and that leaves its mark.
But La Barcarola is not just cuisine: it is also attention, care, hospitality. The service is impeccable, carried out with a sincere kindness and a care that are rarely encountered. Every detail is followed with attention, every request is greeted with a smile, and you always feel listened to, understood, accompanied with discretion throughout the experience.
The fish, in every course, presents itself with a surprising freshness. Whether raw, grilled, in soup or lightly seared, it has a perfect consistency, an authentic marine scent, a cleanliness in the flavors that speaks of careful selection and respect for the raw material. In a world where we often chase the effect, here we celebrate the substance.
And finally, that terrace. A little corner of paradise, immersed in the quiet, with the breeze that caresses the face and the light that filters gently. For lunch it was perfect. I will have to return under cover of darkness, because it will certainly be the perfect place to indulge in a slow, convivial evening, full of flavors and sensations.

Barcarola confirms in its historic name the excellence of its cuisine and its hospitality. A well-kept, welcoming place in line with the tradition that distinguishes it.
A carefully prepared menu dedicated to fish. First and second courses of excellence, I personally recommend both the raw fish and the L iatti branded Barcarola.
There is also a meat menu.
The wine list is no exception.
I would say a more than excellent experience.
In the summer there are also outdoor tables.

È un'Istituzione livornese. Il posto dove si fanno le cene importanti, quelle che scandiscono il tempo della vita . La materia prima è eccellente, la cucina esperta , il servizio cortese , il prezzo corretto . Non fermatevi al cacciucco .
