La Baita In Ispra

A lovely Bavarian-style beer garden, excellent food, great service, heavenly beer 🤣, nice clean rooms with bathrooms. Excellent value for money. Would gladly return.

This place caters to the tastes of tourists who frequent the lake and reminded me of a summer I spent in Germany. The dishes we chose were well-executed and paired perfectly with a beer. It's definitely the perfect place to spend a quiet evening munching on chips and drinking with friends.

I went to the Baita with a friend this Saturday, who assured me it was an authentic place with Bavarian food, as tradition dictates. And that's exactly what happened: I'll start by giving credit to the staff, who were extremely kind and helpful, and then to the food, which reminded me of true Bavarian flavors. A shank that, finally, not only had the rind on, but was actually crispy; I couldn't believe it. It was also topped with just the right amount of beer sauce (a generous amount). We also ordered other dishes, and all of them, besides being delicious, were also extremely faithful to tradition. The prices are just a little high, but they're definitely worth it, and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in, or return to, the true blue-and-white diamond tradition.

Honestly, my expectations were very high, but the Shmitzel was disappointing: the breading promised great things, but the meat inside was "boiled" and looked almost like it had just been defrosted; the cheesecake turned out to be a shortcrust pastry tart with cooked cream. The quality-price ratio leaves much to be desired. I paid two euros for a cover charge when there actually wasn't one: you sit at a wooden table in the center, with cutlery and paper napkins. I don't think I'll be back.
