I've been there several times and have always been very satisfied. Very kind people, excellent food, and attention to every detail. I also had dinner yesterday, December 31, 2025, and everything was truly perfect. A restaurant that never disappoints, not in terms of food and wine, nor in the politeness and kindness of the owner and his daughter. Congratulations!!!

An intimate and relaxed atmosphere, a pleasant surprise in La Spezia. The chef and the staff, united by a great passion for cooking, made our dinner unique. The highlight was the cod, a delicious dish.

A beautiful dinner, an intimate setting, excellent service, and even better food. It's not typical La Spezia cuisine, but the fish is incredibly fresh and cooked to order. Compliments! Highly recommended.

Excellent choice, extraordinary food, and even better service. I mentioned the service because I noticed in my 30 days in Italy that service is generally poor. And when we did get good service, well, I wanted to highlight it. The girl who served us last night was very professional and, above all, attentive. Both my food (fish) and that of the rest of my companions were top-quality, very fresh, and accompanied by a very welcoming atmosphere.

I've only found one other restaurant of comparable quality in all of Italy. The price/performance ratio was outstanding. We discovered it by chance on our first evening and went three more times. Always four courses and great wine pairings. I actually hadn't planned on returning to La Spezia so soon, but now...

The BEST meal we had in our entire two week long trip to Italy (across several cities/towns). The prawns to start were melt in the mouth and the pastas we had were both delicious. Service was so friendly and the restaurant is a lovely space too. The best little find, would recommend to anyone visiting La Spezia or Italy in general!

Il Frantoio

05/12/2025: Focacceria Il Frantoio is kind of hiding: tucked in a narrow alley off the main drag, but you’ll smell that fresh-baked focaccia the moment you walk nearby. Even if you don’t see the sign, follow your nose. Inside the little place, there are only a handful of tables, so most people grab a slice and go. They do those classic Ligurian-style focacce: some round like pizzas (but no sauce) and some square or rectangular slabs. The difference is more than shape, focaccia isn’t pizza. It uses dough with more leavening, so it stays thicker, softer, and airier than typical pizza crust, and it gets dimpled and drenched in olive oil before baking. Because of that, the focaccia from Il Frantoio feels pillowy inside but still crispy at the edges — perfect base for whatever topping they throw on. Go for a classic plain‑olive-oil slice if you want something simple and salty. Or, if you’re up for a punchier flavor, try their anchovy version: salty, briny, and made for a beach‑town afternoon. Honestly, it’s the perfect snack to grab before hiking to Vernazza — light, filling, and full of energy for the climb. Bottom line: Focacceria Il Frantoio isn’t fancy. It’s small, kind of hidden, and not Instagram-flashy. But if you want a genuinely good bite of Ligurian comfort food, warm focaccia, salty anchovies or olive-oil-rich crust, handheld and cheap, this spot hits exactly right.
