Il Melograno In Pontedera

We have been traveling around Italy for a week now and have tried so many delicious foods, but the meal we had here was the absolute best so far! ​The food was simply unparalleled and packed with authentic flavors. We weren't sure what to order, so we asked the staff for their recommendations—and they did not disappoint. Every single one of the 4 dishes they suggested was outstanding. Excellent service, incredible atmosphere, and top-tier hospitality. If you are visiting the Toiano area, do not miss out on this place. Truly excellent.

American tourists found a gem of a spot. We stumbled upon this place trying to find a place to eat. We were waited on by the children of the owners, both nights we ate there. Yes, we made reservations two nights in a row because of the service and food. Couldn’t have been nicer. Do not miss this hidden gem on your travels throughout Tuscany and Pondetera!!

A wonderful evening in the countryside near Pontedera. The food was surprisingly good, and the atmosphere was elegant. Prices were reasonable. The service was acceptable, but I'd advise against letting the customer know you're sending them away, given that it was only 10:30 PM. It's noticeable, and it's not a pleasant memory.

Quality food, smiling staff, a welcoming and refreshing atmosphere, prices so fair they seem outdated, and last but not least, beautiful trees surrounding it. A wonderful surprise, thank you!

We went to "Il Melograno" near Pontedera for dinner in May 2026. We had reserved a table beforehand via WhatsApp; we were able to bring our dog along without any problems. The interior is almost entirely green. Unfortunately, due to the weather, we couldn't sit outside on the terrace. The food was good, but not outstanding. For our starter, we shared the "Assortimento di Pecorini con marmellata di cipolla" (Assortment of Pecorino with Onion Marmalade). Unfortunately, there weren't any different types of Pecorino or different degrees of ripeness, as one would expect from an "Assortimento." You can clearly see in the picture that there was only one type of cheese on the plate. While it was very good—just like the onion marmalade—it didn't match the menu or our expectations. Afterwards, we each enjoyed a filet steak. One was grilled and served "plain," and the other with a green peppercorn sauce. Both were ordered cooked "medium rare." The grilled steak arrived as expected. However, the steak in pepper sauce was completely overcooked, which I pointed out. The server dismissed it dismissively with the statement, "That's normal for steaks with sauce," and did nothing further. Each steak came with a potato and some arugula as a side dish. We ordered half a liter of house white wine and a bottle of still water. At €69 for the meal, this restaurant is significantly more expensive than comparable establishments around Pontedera, Palaia, Peccioli, and Montopoli. Unfortunately, the same applies to the quality. When two out of three dishes presented significant problems, it can only be rated as a three-star restaurant.

Two appetizers: Fassona beef tartare and seafood platter, both excellent. Two main courses: fillet with green peppercorns and oregano all'isolana, both also very good. A bottle of Pinot Noir from the Antinori winery and coffee are also included. €86 total. The fruity treats were a welcome addition to the appetizer. Fast and courteous service, and the setting is a delightfully soft green.
