We came here as tourists from Emilia on the recommendation of the Michelin guide. The place is absolutely unpretentious, as evidenced by the decor and the spartan menu. We were accompanied to the back where the restaurant has an outdoor area overlooking the square. We ordered cold cuts (16 euros for 9 slices) and a "scarpaccia" (whatever the people of Lucca may say... An omelette, and ours was greasy, salty and burnt). Then two first courses: tacconi col pomodoro (essentially maltagliati with small pieces of fresh tomato and pecorino on top) and tordelli (pasta filled with aromatic herbs and meat sauce, perhaps the most characteristic and valid dish of the four): both good, but disarmingly simple. With two glasses of wine and cover charge (bread and water) €66 for two people. We were not particularly happy: it is true that we are in the historic center, but as Italians traveling what we were left with was a culinary experience that was not particularly generous, nor succulent, nor refined, nor extraordinarily well-made... In short, the idea of enhancing the territory is nice, it is nice to be able to offer something "from the countryside" in the city, but "il Mecenate" is more of an idea to embrace than to eat. Perhaps suitable for tourists or for those who, coming from a particularly urban or modern environment, have never spoiled even a traditional Tuscan-Emilian dish in an inn outside the city. Moreover, my companion and I chatted at length about the experience: to both of us it seemed like a missed opportunity. We believe that if you really want to enhance the territory, creating attention and an active culture in the consumer and not an aprioristic and uncritical adhesion to the cause, we would have appreciated information sheets in the menus, while maintaining the same biting sympathy. For example, we know what a biodynamic wine is, but those who do not know it and are not guided in appreciating it, simply think that the wine is spoiled.

Everything here was fantastic – from the service and ambiance to the excellent wine and food. Excellent value for money – we'll definitely be back on our next visit to Lucca!

In visita a Lucca siamo stati in questo locale attratti dalle recensioni slow food, la qualità dei prodotti è alta e si sente ma le aspettative erano alte e non ha lasciato il segno che ci aspettavamo. Neccetti di castagne buoni nella norma, tordelli Lucchesi molto buoni, Rovelline Lucchesi completamente affogate nella salsa ed il cappero la fa da padrone ma sono gusti

La cucina tipica lucchese è sicuramente il punto di forza di questo ristorante. I piatti sono molto buoni, serviti molto velocemente e a un rapporto qualità prezzo equilibrato. Il servizio così così e l'accoglienza abbastanza fredda. I tavoli sono decisamente troppo vicini tra loro anche se l'ambiente è piacevole e curato. Promosso sicuramente ma senza entusiasmare.
