A 4-day, 3-night vacation in the Cinque Terre in early January, based in Manarola. On the third day, we visited the town of Monterosso after arriving by train.
The previous days, we had lunch at restaurants in other villages; here, given the generally higher prices and the desire for something more "spartan," we opted for a few slices of focaccia at this restaurant. There's a limited seating inside, but we ordered the focaccia to go. We (previously) bought two bottles of wine at a nearby market, and (thanks also to a corkscrew we had) we had lunch near the seafront despite the colder weather.
Excellent freshly baked focaccia at a great price; the perfect place for a quick and tasty meal that will help your wallet stay healthy.

Exceptional focaccias, spoilt for choice, I recommend them to everyone. You can't go to Monterosso, the landscape is fantastic, and not stop by the oil mill to eat the best focaccias in the area.

Despite its name, it's a focacceria! It's a bit hidden; if you don't know it's there, it's hard to find. However, when it's busy, if you have a good nose, you can find your way. The staff inside don't smile much (maybe it wasn't a good day), but the purchase went smoothly. Wide variety of products.

Focacceria Il Frantoio is kind of hiding: tucked in a narrow alley off the main drag, but you’ll smell that fresh-baked focaccia the moment you walk nearby. Even if you don’t see the sign, follow your nose. Inside the little place, there are only a handful of tables, so most people grab a slice and go.
They do those classic Ligurian-style focacce: some round like pizzas (but no sauce) and some square or rectangular slabs. The difference is more than shape, focaccia isn’t pizza. It uses dough with more leavening, so it stays thicker, softer, and airier than typical pizza crust, and it gets dimpled and drenched in olive oil before baking. Because of that, the focaccia from Il Frantoio feels pillowy inside but still crispy at the edges — perfect base for whatever topping they throw on.
Go for a classic plain‑olive-oil slice if you want something simple and salty. Or, if you’re up for a punchier flavor, try their anchovy version: salty, briny, and made for a beach‑town afternoon. Honestly, it’s the perfect snack to grab before hiking to Vernazza — light, filling, and full of energy for the climb.
Bottom line: Focacceria Il Frantoio isn’t fancy. It’s small, kind of hidden, and not Instagram-flashy. But if you want a genuinely good bite of Ligurian comfort food, warm focaccia, salty anchovies or olive-oil-rich crust, handheld and cheap, this spot hits exactly right.

Best focaccia in town, the crispy edge was just to the point ✨ pizza and chickpea pastry were also really delicious 😋 the ingredients were fresh and they warmed the food up. The staff were very kind too. Highly recommend 👍🏼

We stopped for lunch at this focacceria today. The lady was very kind and served very quickly. We had two margherita pizzas, one with cheese, a piece of farinata, and a beer, all for the modest sum of €12—prices unheard of in Liguria.
