Nice dishes if you looking for seafood.
It’s hard to find in Rome places like this so once founded keep it like a treasure!
Everything was delicious.
Don’t be tricked by the entrance of the restaurant because looks like a Bettola ( tavern) from the 80s’ and you are tempted to leave without come in.
Food it’s good.

We went there quite spontaneously. The atmosphere was rather refined and relaxed. The food was excellent! The service was efficient and unobtrusive.

Hands down our favorite restaurant in Rome! We loved it so much we chose to go back for dinner to close out our family trip.
We happened to find this place on a whim after a long day at the Vatican museum. We got there right as it opened and it soon filled up. Every dish we had was delicious! The prawn stuffed ravioli and the calamari were our favorites. The calamari was the best we've ever eaten! The atmosphere was nice, the service was excellent and it appeared this was a locals spot. We finished every last bite of all six dishes. 10 out of 10!

I'm torn about writing this review. Not from a lack of enthusiasm, but from an almost protective instinct: I know I'm quite popular, and the thought that next time I might not find a table, or have to fight for a table, crosses my mind. Some places, when they work so well, make you want to keep them for yourself.
Bar Sotto Il Mare is one of them.
I hadn't been back in at least twenty years. Long enough to make returning a risky act: because memories are often more generous than reality. But no. Something rare and precious has happened here: nothing has changed. Or rather, only the weather outside has.
The same atmosphere, the same way of welcoming you, the same feeling of a true seafood osteria nestled in the heart of Rome. A place where fish isn't a fad but a habit, treated with respect, moderation, and that quiet confidence that only kitchens that don't have to prove anything possess.
But the best surprise wasn't in the food, which remains memorable, but in the people. Finding the same staff, the same faces, the same naturalness in making you feel "at home" after two decades is something that goes beyond the restaurant business. It's continuity, it's identity, it's care.
Leaving, I felt like I'd reclaimed a piece of the city I thought was lost. That's why I'm torn: because telling about it means sharing it. But certain places, when they stand the test of time so well, deserve to be recognized.
With discretion, though. As you do with truly precious things.

I've always eaten well, fresh fish and excellent products, thanks also to the proximity of the market.

I happened to come across this restaurant that seems to be frequented by locals. Everything was delicious and amazing! If you're near the Vatican, you should definitely eat here.
