Hostaria Zanarotti In Montagnana

We tried it on the evening of Saturday, May 23, 2025. This is a restaurant in Montagnana (there are three or four others similar to it) that makes, or would like to make, local specialties and the famous prosciutto its strong point. Given the rather warm evening, we sat outside on the terrace, so I can't comment on the interior. First, we ordered two plates of prosciutto and sweet and sour vegetables, two tramezzini (one tuna and olives, one egg and olives), two glasses of Soave, and a half-liter bottle of water. Later, having realized that—irrelevantly, because prosciutto can't be eaten on its own—no bread was served, we had to order a portion of "schizzotto bianco," essentially a good white bread, for €4.00 to accompany the prosciutto. It should be noted that this restaurant, unlike other similar ones in Montagnana, only offers cold dishes, so there aren't many alternatives. After a short wait, the young waitress, kind and very efficient, brought us everything. The prosciutto, I'd say about 100 grams per person, so not too small or too large, was, in my opinion, absolutely normal, no more and no less than what you can find at a much more affordable price—about €3.50 per 100 grams—in many local supermarkets. The sweet and sour vegetables (giardiniera) were good. The two tramezzini were very good and fresh, definitely the best. The Soave served was decidedly poor, a 4, and we regularly drink several of this wine and are able to evaluate them. Moreover, the glasses of this wine were very small, so much so that I definitely recommend getting a whole bottle, obviously of another wine, and taking it home at the end of the meal. Considering the amount served, the final bill, €48.40 (€15.00 each for the ham plates), seemed truly excessive, not justified by the quantity and quality of the food served. Specifically, in my opinion, the price doesn't compare to a good pizzeria, where, for a much lower price, you can eat more, better, and more affordably. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend this place, or even its type, due to the very poor quality-price ratio.

We had a pleasant break while visiting the historic center of Montagnana. The local prosciutto was excellent, and Aurora was very welcoming, a truly courteous and professional person. Recommended! Marcello from Bologna

Very nice place, knowledgeable and friendly staff, what can I say, the Montagnana raw ham is unsurpassed... the local wines are excellent...
