Ghiotto Ristorante - Assisi In Assisi

Inventive and perfectly cooked food (making a nice change from the relentless and often lacklustre pizza and pasta offering in the rest of the city). Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. The best meal and service we had in Assisi, without a doubt.

So our hotel is a bit up the street on the uphill corner of the main piazza in Assisi which continued to the St Francis basilica where few tourist venture so we passed by this place Ristorante Ghiotto with a small menu of interesting dishes as opposed to the lengthy menus nearly everywhere else, so we decided this was our destiny. We had a fabulous meal starting with an amzing potato millefoglie with italian chard and a beet sauce, then spaghetti with cacio e pepe on steroids accelerated by safron, julienned zucchini and zuchini flowers, then veal tongue with a green bean and boiled egg salad/side (where can you find tongue these days?!), and finally a sophisticated Italian version of strawberry short cake built on crispy frech toast eith amazing Italian strawberries and two small dollops of mascarpone to keep it light. 3 glasses of Trebbiano Spoletino at 8 euros each compared to 15 euros a glass in the states. An incredible meal! And waiter/manager Maurizio was super friendly and happy to explain the dishes.

I stepped in to this quaint spot high up in Assisi after walking in from the valley. The food and service were both excellent. I am an English speaking solo traveler, so my server was kind enough to call over the barista who spoke English to help me decide on what to order. Both of my dishes were cooked to perfection, and prepared with heart. They were delicious!! I was also served bread baked in house with fine EVOO. I walked back down to the valley full and happy.

We've been to this restaurant no less than three times, so I think I can give a (mostly) objective review. The place isn't big, and this is perhaps an advantage for patrons as well. The food is good and the service is better. The menu features local products that are worth trying! So the food quality is good, but not abundant (unfortunately). Cleanliness is good, including the bathroom! The courtesy was above average, and the service was adequate. The prices? A bit steep, but we left without regrets.

We stopped by chance today for lunch and had a great time, the food is excellent and the staff is very kind!!!!

Maurizio, the delightful chef, served us with courtesy and attention. The food was carefully prepared and very good. The olive oil and bread were amazing!!!

Today we passed through Assisi, and before leaving for the 400km drive, we thought we'd grab a sandwich. We stopped by chance in front of Il Ghiotto...well...the homemade sourdough focaccia, warm and stuffed with prosciutto crudo, the fat of which melted in your mouth, was a mystical experience! 😅 The best focaccia we've ever eaten!!! The owner is very kind. Highly recommended!!!

We had lunch today, April 25th. The place was decent, the service excellent, the dishes excellent, the price normal. I recommend it.

We ate very well at this restaurant, very close to the Basilica of Saint Francis. The food was delicious, well-prepared, and the staff was very friendly.
