An unforgettable experience every time! I have been to this restaurant four times, and each time it has been simply fantastic. The atmosphere is authentic and welcoming, perfect for savoring true Tuscan cuisine. Each dish is a celebration of the flavors of the area: from typical cured meats to first courses of homemade pasta, up to succulent meats cooked to perfection. The staff is always kind, attentive and ready to make the experience special. The view is breathtaking and adds that extra touch. I can't wait to return once again. It's the kind of place that makes you fall in love with Tuscany with every bite. Highly recommended!

New Year's Eve dinner for 16 people. Innovative dishes respecting tradition, top quality ingredients for an exhilarating tasting journey. Excellent choice of wines. Professional and kind staff, masterfully guided by Massimo, the owner. A place with typical local architecture, very welcoming, sober but elegant. We will definitely be back!

dulcisinfundo is fantastic! It is actually the best meal we had during our trip. Massimo is so incredibly kind and generous. Our waitress, Andrea felt like family! She recommended the guanciale dish and it was the best plate we’ve had on our trip. We will absolutely be back if not this trip, then the next! Seriously this is a must stop while you’re in San Gimignano.

Massimo è un Signor Ristoratore, la gentile Andrea porta i piatti in tavola con professionalità ma anche con un sorriso e Anna (spero di non ricordare male il nome) è una cuoca insuperabile. Non dimenticherò questo compleanno: non solo per la buona cucina i buoni vini, la location e la mis en place di gran classe, ma per il calore umano che mi ha reso felice. È stato bello portare a casa i vini e l'olio e il ricordo di San Gimignano.

Massimo is a restaurateur, the kind Andrea brings the dishes to the table with professionalism but also with a smile and Anna (I hope I'm not misremembering her name) is an unsurpassed cook. I will not forget this birthday: not only for the good food, the good wines, the location and the classy mis en place, but for the human warmth that made me happy. It was nice to bring home the wines and the oil and the memory of San Gimignano and... Last but not least.

We had a fantastic lunch here. The food was amazing, the best we’ve had in Tuscany! The wild boar stew was so good! Service, food, and ambiance were top notch!

19/02/2025: Please, do yourself a service and do not overlook this restaurant. The best value in San Gimignano by far. Authentic local food cooked with genuine passion… And you can taste it. Service kind and proud of the menu they serve. Simply wonderful.

La Solita Zuppa

24/03/2025: We first discovered La Solita Zuppa in June 2019, during a stay at the nearby Poggio Piglia. Our initial visit was for lunch — and it was so wonderful that we ended up returning for dinner every evening of that stay except for one. Andrea, the owner, was warm and knowledgeable, entertaining us with stories about the evolution of Tuscan cuisine and offering thoughtful recommendations from the menu and anecdotes about the ingredients. The restaurant itself is charmingly decorated, with a beautiful vaulted brick ceiling and little green gingham details. Andrea's wife is the chef, and every dish — from the simple yet perfectly executed tomato and garlic pici, to the elegant gnudi with sage and the richly flavoured ginger ravioli — was cooked to absolute perfection. We discovered the influence of Italy's ancient connection with the Silk Road still alive today in many of the dishes. All through the pandemic and unable to travel, we promised ourselves we’d return one day. And in August 2024, we finally repeated the same trip, again staying at Poggio Piglia and once again dining at La Solita Zuppa each night. While there had been some small changes since covid, including the addition of a cute little terrace, we were delighted to find Andrea and his wife still running the restaurant, and many of the dishes we had dreamt about (and even tried to recreate at home) still on the menu. The entire experience was just as amazing as we had remembered, if not even better. The restaurant was definitely busier than it had been during our last trip, which was wonderful to see, and our only single disappointment was that Andrea was far too busy with all of our fellow diners to spend very much time at our table. On our last evening he recommended us the wine 'Vigna Flavia' from a small vineyard in Chiusi, which was so wonderful that we now regularly order cases of it to enjoy at home in Switzerland. Our favourites on the menu (I think we managed to try everything!) were the gnudi with sage (sometimes served with truffle), the ginger ravioli with poppy seeds, the garlic pici, the maiale with rosemary and honey, and the sformato which we also had once served with black truffle. We are real foodies and have eaten in all kinds of restaurants all over the world, from three star Michelin establishments to street food stands, always searching for places that blow us away. There is something very special about La Solita Zuppa and the honesty of the place, the inventiveness of the menu and yet its embrace of tradition. Italian food at its BEST. We hope to return again!
