🎗️ Castagneto has been open since 1969. Its name literally translates to "chestnut orchard." Located on the slopes of Monte Montrigiasco, near Arona and Lago Maggiore, Castagneto's simple decor exudes warmth and relaxation, offering views of the mountains and surrounding Lombardy. The rustic building is recognizable by its traditional roof and brick walls, blending seamlessly with the landscape. There's also a garden terrace with outdoor tables, perfect for soaking up the sun on a sunny day.
🎗️ The menu is limited to a la carte options. We recommend the Tagliatelle al ragù d'anitra, which features homemade flat tagliatelle tossed in a fragrant duck ragu sauce. It's not heavy on the stomach, and the duck is minced and prepared to the perfect tenderness without any unpleasant odor. Next up is the long-named Spaghetti neri leggermente piccanti con calamari, gamberetti, salicornia e pomodorini confit, featuring homemade black spaghetti mixed with a variety of seafood, including squid, shrimp, and shellfish. The pasta has the perfect aroma of squid. When you bite into it, you'll experience the crispness of the salicornia and the sweetness of the confit tomatoes. Finally, we finish with the Bonet delle Langhe con gelato alla nocciola, a local dessert from the Piedmont region, a soft and creamy custard-like texture. The restaurant serves it with hazelnut ice cream.

5 stars with honors. What can I say? A warm, understatedly elegant, and welcoming atmosphere. The staff is kind and attentive, and the menu offers a wide range of tantalizing dishes; the best of all are Piedmontese dishes prepared and served with refinement and elegance. And to top it all off, a fabulous wine list. Undecided, we opted for carafe wine, a little hesitant for fear of being a bit subdued for the restaurant. Not at all, the sommelier appreciated the choice, and we enjoyed an excellent Nebbiolo. And to finish, excellent desserts.
Well, with a few rare exceptions, the restaurant scene on Lake Maggiore offers mostly mediocrity disguised as high-sounding names and inadequate prices.
Here, the cherry on top was the bill: it's rare to find such a good value.
A true favorite on the list of favorite restaurants.
