Don't expect luxury, bright lights, waiters with bows, none of that! But a very, very welcoming place and fresh food daily, and it's like going to grandma's house for a fantastic dinner! Forno Calabria is a place that's difficult to describe according to the canons of modern dining. In short, don't expect a classic restaurant with tables, waiters, an à la carte menu, and a wine list... You simply won't find it.
What you will find instead is a home ready to welcome you, where the experience of simple, authentic food blends with the encounter and discovery of the place and the people who make it unique: Marilena and her daughter Roberta.
We were two pilgrims on the Camino Matera, on an evening when the shop was closed. However, we were welcomed anyway and had the opportunity to enjoy a simple meal and the company of Marilena, who treated us like her own children. We had a great time and thank her for what she prepared for us: a cured meat appetizer, a legume soup, some cooked herbs, and a bit of lamb.
For us, it was a different kind of evening; we recommend it to anyone who still knows how to be amazed by authentic places and flavors.
