Caffe' Tommaseo In Trieste

What was once one of the splendid historic cafés of Trieste has now also been transformed into a restaurant. I certainly cannot discuss strategic and commercial choices that may have become necessary, but certainly the particular atmosphere that distinguished it, like the other venues of this type still in existence, has been somewhat lost, even if the venue remains very beautiful. 01/12/2025 They have managed, very intelligently, to keep the restaurant part separate. Especially in the morning, the atmosphere of the typical Viennese restaurant remains intact

Our experience at this restaurant was unfortunately below expectations. We chose this restaurant recommended by a relative who lives here, the wait for a glass of wine was immense, it was served to me after receiving the dish (compared to the other diners I chose a different type of wine). The others were served a wine with a very pale red color and a decidedly unpleasant taste, which they reported to the waiters. The response was not very convincing: we were told that it was 'normal because it was a Hungarian wine but that it didn't taste like cork', despite the fact that the report didn't say that it tasted like cork (one of the guests is a sommelier), in short there is no There was no attempt to verify whether the bottle was compromised or to propose a solution. However in the end the wine was changed. Unfortunately, the behavior of the staff was unwelcoming, making the experience less pleasant. The food was overall good but I believe that customer attention and problem management can be improved as it is a restaurant of a certain caliber.

Amazing food. Amazing atmosphere. Amazing service. Food - seafood crudités and cicchetti were very tasty and a good choice to share within a group. Grilled octopus was delicious. Tuna tataki was fabulous and almost melting in mouth (one of the best seafood meals I have ever had). Tiramisu was a great experience. Besides the fact that you can clearly taste the coffee, and hence this dessert being tasty, one of the waiters made it in front of us which delighted our eyes too. Atmosphere - you can feel the history in this place, especially that it is the first café in Trieste and used to be a meeting place for intellectuals. Beautiful historical interior. Service - very professional with big extra (e.g. as mentioned above). The croatian waiter made the whole experience even nicer, he had good suggestions for the food and wine and we had a nice chat (e.g. about the Trieste and the café) thanks to him being well-read.
