Caffe' Tommaseo In Trieste

An elegant and refined restaurant on the Trieste seafront; excellent food, well-cooked, in satisfying quantities, and beautifully presented; impeccable service.

We had a great 6€ Tommaseo coffee and a piece of cake for 8€ was also good...but the atmosphere in the coffee shop was great... btw the entrance is to the right of the restaurant entrance.

After travelling around Italy for a month, I can safely say that the Caffé Tommaseo is not only the best food I had but also the best service, and close to the best atmosphere. The welcome was warm, smiling and relaxed. The waiters (including the new young lad) were superb all evening. Other restaurant owners should head for this cafe to see how it should be done. The sommelier was excellent too and recommended several new wines. I was most impressed by how kind the staff were to each other. That’s rarer than you might expect. The food was perfect - high quality sea food with unique sauces and preparations. This is impressive stuff. The proximity of the road impacts the atmosphere a little but it’s a lot less intrusive than many restaurants around the Mediterranean. Now I must confess, I didn’t leave a tip - completely by accident. As I left early the following morning it wasn’t possible to go back, but I will. I promise I will return next year and pay that tip and enjoy the food, service and atmosphere again. The owners of Caffè Tommaseo know that they have a genuine legendary end-of-empire cafe and restaurant, but I hope they realise that they have an equally legendary team of young waiters (and waitress!) and sommelier.

We had a late afternoon “refueling stop” at Caffè Tommaseo, dating back to 1825, the oldest cafe in Trieste. Named in honor of the writer Niccolò Tommaseo, it has served as an historic meeting place for artists, writers and intellectuals, as well as its 19th-century neoclassical decor. The café is also famous for introducing ice cream and gas lighting to Trieste. The cocktails, coffees and cakes were excellent!

I just had an incredible experience with the best scallop I've ever tasted! The staff were so kind and attentive, making my time there truly special. I felt so well cared for, and I can't thank you enough for everything. It was a lovely experience. 😊💖

Bellissimo ristorante storico di Trieste, ambiente elegante e cucina raffinata ( attenzione alle porzioni… impegnative !!! forse è meglio ordinare una prima portata e poi valutare se proseguire oltre ) personale gentile ed attento, buon rapporto qualità/ prezzo. Unica pecca : la toilette, non all’altezza dello standard del locale, forse perché in condivisione con il bar…

Location bellissima e servizio impeccabile Piatti molto curati e buonissimi. Porzioni abbondanti Abbiamo speso 130 € in due x 2 antipasti, 2 risotti ai frutti di mare 1 dolce, 4 calici di vino. Prezzo corretto considerando il contesto e la qualità dei piatti.
