When we visit a new city, we usually don't go back to the same restaurant twice in a row... In this case we were overwhelmed by the quality of the food and the friendliness of the owner so we were almost forced to return!
Enjoyable portions and very high quality food, I highly recommend the boiled meat and the Giulianska. The Jota, Goulash and bread dumplings are also exceptional. We will definitely return next time we return to Trieste!

I never really leave a review for restaurants but feel like this deserves special mention. I ordered the steak with cherry tomatoes and it was absolutely delicious. A perfect mixture of salty but sweet, chewy but tender, light but full. Too many times restaurants ruin steaks by trying to be too fancy with too many ingredients. This is not one of those cases.

Uno dei locali storici più gettonati dai triestini e a piena ragione. Nonostante i suoi 110 anni il locale sa ancora di buona cucina, di amore per le tradizioni, di genuinità e semplicità. Si entra in questo locale e ci si sente a casa. Ci si siede e ci si lascia trasportare dai sensi. L'affabilità e la cortesia dei gestori è veramente disarmante. Sei dentro la storia di questa città, ma non senti per niente il peso del blasone e della notorietà. Mangi divinamente e discorri con i gestori come faresti al bar sotto casa. Nulla è lasciato al caso e tutto è al di sopra delle aspettative, financo il conto. Ottimo locale.

While passing through Trieste I had dinner at this place. The owners are friendly and informal. The bread gnocchi with ragù are excellent. The place has few seats so it is best to book. I will definitely return.

Visiting a place like this is like entering the soul of Trieste, that of many years ago. I'm from Venice and for me Trieste is a nice trip. Then you come across the buffets and it's like discovering those places that make you feel happy to have took the train. The owner served us, for sure, kind, smiling and a great professional. Useful and secret advice on potatoes in the pan. At the end he offers us the sambuca and we realize that you were not his guest but more. Return? it will be a privilege. Thank you.

Locale tradizionale, servizio essenziale, cameriere simpatico, cibo buono.
Noi abbiamo mangiato gnocchi con guolash, gnocchi con selvaggina e jota; arrosto di maiale con patate in tecia; strudel.
Tutto buono, consigliato!
