I went to Buffet L'Approdo for lunch. It was a fantastic experience: delicious and varied food, a very pleasant (and extremely friendly) atmosphere, and fair prices (I spent €17 for soup, a cordon bleau, and a dessert, which also included water, service charge, and bread). One of the ladies in particular was incredibly kind to my girlfriend and I: she explained the entire menu to us and gave us some excellent recommendations. Highly recommended (maybe make a reservation, as it's often very crowded).

If you're in Trieste, this is a culinary stop you can't miss. Call to reserve a table at the counter, as the place is small and very popular. The dishes are the best a traditional buffet can offer, complemented by a wide and carefully selected wine list.

True traditional food! Frequented mostly by locals, the dishes are homemade and served in generous portions. It's affordable and offers excellent value.
We recommend trying the plum gnocchi, a typical Trieste dessert.
Anna, the manager, is super friendly and explained all the restaurant's typical dishes to us (since we didn't know what they were) even though it was crowded.
Go, but hurry because the place is small and crowded!
