The pizza with speck was delicious, and so was the panna cotta.

Everything was excellent: service, food, atmosphere. One of the top restaurants in Venice, without a doubt. The fish is excellent and incredibly fresh, and the pizza is undoubtedly the best in the historic center. Definitely worth a try and highly recommended!

Don’t be fooled by first impressions. Antico Gatoleto might look like a classic tourist hotspot, with countless tables, crowds of visitors, and an interior that won’t win any design awards. But behind the busy façade is, in my opinion, the best pizzeria in Venice. The pizza is outstanding. I usually leave the crust, but here the dough is so perfectly made that I finished every last bite. A good sign: plenty of locals stop by to pick up pre-ordered pizzas, so don’t let the tourist crowds put you off. We make a point of coming here every year when we visit Venice. A special thank you to the lovely waitress, who somehow always keeps her smile and patience, even when the restaurant is packed. One tip: definitely reserve a table in advance!

They have gluten-free options. I tried the squid ink pasta and it was quite good. You can ask about intolerances and they'll answer without any problem.

11/06/2026: We went here with friends, and even though it's Monday, we found fresh fish. Highly recommended. We'll definitely be back.
01/06/2026: This experience left me very disappointed and completely changed the positive opinion I had of this restaurant. My husband and I came for lunch with our two children, ages 4 and 2. We'd been here several times before, and I'd even left a 5-star review with photos because I was so satisfied with the experience. When ordering, I clearly explained that two adults would be eating and that I would be taking care of the children. I only asked for an extra fork and knife to help them eat. We ordered two Complete Menus. The children didn't order anything and simply ate from our food. We didn't ask for extra bread, extra water, or any other dishes. When it came to the bill, however, I was told that the two children would also have to be counted and pay for two Reduced Menus. The amount initially requested was about 52 euros. I was very surprised because no one had informed me of this rule when ordering. The problem for me wasn't money. I would have had no problem paying any cover charge or any fees related to the children's seating. What I couldn't understand was why two children who hadn't ordered anything should be considered two additional menu items. If this rule had been explained to me beforehand, I would have been free to decide whether to order something extra for them. Throughout the conversation, I tried to understand and calmly ask for clarification. Unfortunately, I felt like my questions were being interpreted as an attempt to take advantage of the restaurant, which was completely unrealistic. I never hid the children's presence and had clearly explained the situation from the beginning. The most unpleasant part was the way the situation was handled. My Italian isn't perfect, and while I was trying to explain and translate what I wanted to say, I saw the staff commenting on the situation to other people passing by. I don't know exactly what was said, but I felt uncomfortable and disrespected. In that moment, I felt like I was being judged without anyone truly trying to listen to my point of view. In the end, the bill was corrected, and I only paid for the two Complete Menus plus the service charge, for a total of €32.50. However, I was also told not to return. The saddest thing is that all of this could have been avoided with clear communication from the beginning. I respect the rules of every restaurant, but I believe every customer deserves clear explanations and respect, especially when they're simply trying to understand a situation. No one should feel humiliated or treated as if they're trying to take advantage of others just for asking a question.
