historic Venetian restaurant in the historic center really inside the streets (nice to get there with routes outside the busy and tourist ones), it is very small and you have to book months in advance
menu based on cooked and raw fish, with pasta or not, but really fresh and well-presented fish
the service, even given the minimal space, is courteous and fast
what you may not like are the prices: the average is 30e per dish, which is reasonable for the quality of the food and because we know that in Venice it's like this
I recommend reading the history of the name of this street ;)
If you are looking for a good restaurant and not to get ripped off, this is for you

Trattoria Antiche Carampane obviously lives from its reputation, thanks to the recommendations of various book authors. In any case, it is extremely difficult to get a table. After finally achieving this with the help of our hotel concierge, we arrived with high expectations at a trattoria in Venice's S. Polo that fulfilled all the clichés of a tourist restaurant. To be fair, the service was really good and nice! The food was exactly the opposite of what we expected. The antipasti of the day consisting of various fish dishes (sardine sour, etc.) was quite good.
My intermediate course, Spaghetti al Busara, was boring. The grilled fish of the day, a Lotte by the way, was a disaster. The side dish, a kind of ratatouille, was completely mushy and inedible. My wife's Frito Misto was also mediocre at best. We visited many restaurants in Venice and have fond memories of them. The Trattoria Antiche Carampane is not one of them.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner here: a fabulous antipasti of fish, swordfish puttanesca, sea bream special and fritto misto, all washed down with house carafes of Prosecco and wine.
Service was good, sitting outside was also enjoyable as it’s a fairly quiet part of Venice - however, the restaurant is popular and it was full with people being turned away, so book!

no reservations available for dinner so we got a spot for lunch. Away from the maddening crowds, this is a small gem with great food. Come hungry and go for starters, primi, secondi and dolce. Todays special was monkfish, prepared simply but super firm yet succulent, pastas were great and wine pairing good. Service was homely and attentive. I recommend making this the first reservation you make in Venice.
