Al Petes Vino e Cibo in Cittavecchia In Trieste

I booked Christmas lunch for two people, already upon arrival we had to wait to be seated even though ours was the last free table. Throughout the lunch the lack of presence of the staff made the experience absolutely negative. The environment is very welcoming but we immediately had to wait to receive a menu before ordering, empty plates left on the table. There were at least four waiters but they were all in the other, inner room. Good but extremely small mullet appetizer, 10x5 cm tile in the photo for the price (€18), decent spaghetti with clams, a bit of liveliness was missing. Even there I had to wait to get some pepper to grind and had to stand with my head turned and my arms raised to try to catch the attention of one of the waiters who was going from the counter to the other room. Good dessert, revisited rigojanci. A mini pre-dessert was appreciated. For the choice of wine, instead of verbally indicating the labels available for a glass, the waiter brought to the table four bottles that were in the ice, placing them on the table, wet the tablecloth, unprofessional. I would have appreciated a little more attention from the waiters. When asking for the bill, I wasn't even asked if we would like to have a coffee or a bitter. In conclusion, the food was good, the price was a little too high for what is offered, and the service was very poor. It's nice how a basket of bread with various qualities is served, all homemade, which partly justifies the €5 cover charge. I will try to give them another chance on another occasion.

Ristorante carino nella città vecchia di Trieste con una cucina molto interessante ed innovativa ma tenendo salde le radici della tradizione. Ottima carta dei vini e chef davvero bravi sia sui primi e secondi e antipasti e sia sui dolci. Servizio professionale e prezzi giusti per la qualità del locale . Direi che per chi vuole passare una bella serata è il posto giusto .

Il locale è carino e abbastanza accogliente, il servizio efficiente, la carta dei vini interessante, ma sopratutto il cibo è squisito, delicato e originale. Una menzione speciale per i memorabili fusilli con cicale di mare e per gli irresistibili dolci, fra cui il golosissimo rigojanci e l’originale cioccolato bianco con rafano.

A few steps from the center of Trieste, al Petes is a place with a rustic/contemporary flavour, with a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. The tasting menu is recommended which ranges from fish and meat dishes with Asian influences. Fabulous venison with pepper and hazelnuts. The wine list is interesting. Some inaccuracies in the first one, but the owner was immediately available to have it repeated. The hotel is also located a few meters away.

Good food , nice wine. Well presented. Wine was good though it did feel a little like asking for a view on the best pairing was a little too much trouble.

A really good experience. We went for a few local wines recommended by the waiter - all amazing and spot in to our taste. *Ribolla Gialla Venezia Giulia IGT Ronco Severo *Malvasia Istriana, Zidarich *DECIMO DEL FAET Food was amazing as well. Spaghetti clams, very “ocean” fresh tasty, the fish perfect. The octopus cooked to perfection. the rabbit ravioli was fantastic. Really good value and recommendation.

I expected to eat well but I was wrong: I ate very well! Exquisite fish tasting menu, surprising combinations and super presentation of dishes. Excellent wine, helpful and attentive staff. Fast and super friendly service, can't wait to go back! Well done!
