We had Christmas Eve dinner here, and it was a wonderful experience. Al Petes, in Trieste, is a very beautiful and well-kept restaurant.
One thing I really appreciated was that, even though I don't eat fish, I found excellent meat choices, with an à la carte menu and truly interesting options.
I started with cotechino tortellini in broth, which I thought were out of this world, and then continued with delicious goulash and sweetbreads that were out of this world.
The staff was excellent, kind, and attentive.
Highly recommended!

We tried the €70 per person tasting menu and the experience was truly excellent and enjoyable.
✨ Tasting Dishes
The journey was a crescendo of interesting flavors and bold combinations, culminating in a flawless trio of desserts.
Appetizers:
Sea Bream Carpaccio with Coconut Cream and Lovage Oil: An extraordinary start. The delicacy of the sea bream meets the exotic sweetness of the coconut and the aromatic freshness of the lovage oil. A perfect combination of flavors.
Venison Tartare, Giardiniera, Crescenza Cream, and Olive Terra: An amazing dish. The venison was completely delicate, surprisingly free of the expected "gamey" flavor, beautifully balanced by the savory flavor of the giardiniera and olives. Truly an excellent execution.
Mushrooms, Potato Foam, Kimchi, Mayonnaise, and Yuzu Sphere: An excellent combination. The combination of the earthiness of the mushrooms and the fermented, savory touch of the kimchi was very balanced and intriguing, thanks to the citrusy note of the yuzu.
First and Second Courses
Parsley and Garlic Risotto with Snails: A rustic yet elegant first course, very well executed and flavorful.
Octopus on a Cream of Celeriac and Puntarelle: A dish that never disappoints. Simple, but the cooking of the octopus and the bitterness of the puntarelle combined with the sweetness of the celeriac make it a winner.
Desserts
The meal concluded with a trio of high-quality desserts:
Sorbet Sample
Crème Catalana with Tonka Beans: Excellent! The tonka beans lend a spicy, vanilla-like aroma that elevates the classic crème Catalana.
Chocolate Fondant Chips with Coffee Bavarian Cream
🤵 Service and Atmosphere
The atmosphere is pleasant and the setting is refined. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive, helping to make the experience relaxing and professional.
Only note: It's a shame we couldn't opt for a wine pairing by the glass for the courses; maybe next time!
Petes is highly recommended. It was a pleasant discovery, and we'll definitely be back to try other dishes we saw on the menu, like the Marrowbone, which piqued our curiosity.
The wine list I consulted was excellent.

I ate well and drank even better. The culinary offerings are very interesting, a mix of sophisticated and unusual flavors and tastes. The service was excellent. The bill was reasonable.

There was like a Turbot donut that was rather confusing and the deserts seemed quotidian. All the other dishes were stellar however with the Goulash, kimchi/mushroom starter deserving of particular praise. The seafood spaghetti was extremely good,like swimming in the ocean. Staff were super nice, friendly and informative.
