The waitress, Lorenza, was very kind and explained the food to us. Very good, we decided to try several dishes and I was satisfied with everything! The chicory with fava beans was a really good specialty, as was the main course. I recommend going. It's a shame it's not visible if someone happens to be walking by and doesn't know, but the place is quaint. We ate under the cave, which was lovely.

We ate wonderfully; Mrs. Lorenza was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. The atmosphere is very quaint, clean, and authentic. Here, you can truly taste the cuisine of Matera.

A very characteristic restaurant set in an ancient cave in Matera. Very quiet place, excellent food, and generous portions. They also serve gluten-free dishes; I'm celiac, and I had the pasta with pezzente sausage, which was delicious! Really good value for money. Dogs are welcome.

Located in the heart of the Sassi di Matera, this restaurant offers a refined atmosphere, attentive staff, and traditional Lucanian dishes prepared with quality ingredients. Fast and professional service, excellent value. The tasting menu featuring local wines is also available. The atmosphere is truly enchanting, like stepping into a cave! Ai Palmenti is a restaurant I highly recommend to anyone visiting Matera: a splendid location, excellent dishes, and top-notch service. An experience worth repeating.

Amazing dinner inside a Matera Cave, pasta heca en casa, local wine and the manager and servers are so nice you want to spend all night there, style and place is beyond beautiful, best in Matera (i would not do the restaurants in the main street) this one is off the beaten path.

Cute little restaurant tucked away in one of the streets. It was our honestly our 3rd attempt in finding a place to dine in, as every other place were booked out. I am sooo glad we ended up here as the food was not only delicious, the cave vibe was chill and cosy and the service was super friendly! Highly recommend

Das Essen war geschmacklich wirklich sehr lecker! Leider war die Portion meiner Nudeln mit Parmesansoße recht klein – nach wenigen Gabeln war der Teller leer, und ich war nicht wirklich satt. Auch der Lachs meiner Freundin kam nur mit einem Mini Salat als Beilage. Für zwei Gericht in dieser Preisklasse (50 €) hätten wir etwas mehr erwartet. Schade, denn geschmacklich war es top.“

04/01/2026: We stayed at this property for the weekend to visit the living nativity scene in Matera. The entire property is rustic in style, including the room, but it has all the modern conveniences (large TV, air conditioning, spacious bathroom with a new shower). Furthermore, the room is quite spacious, including a very comfortable double bed, a sofa, a desk, a large mirror, and a spacious wardrobe. The room also opens onto a very spacious private terrace, allowing you to enjoy a wonderful view of the countryside and the peace of nature. I'd like to give the cleanliness 10 out of 5 stars, but that's not possible. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and it's plentiful and tasty, whether you prefer a savory or sweet breakfast (freshly squeezed juice, various homemade desserts, cheeses and cured meats, coffee, or various herbal teas). As for the restaurant, we had lunch on the day of arrival, and I definitely recommend it. The food is good and healthy, and the quality/price ratio is excellent. I also wanted to thank the owner, who was very helpful and kind. She offers the advertised services (Wi-Fi, parking, and a high level of cleanliness) 100 percent, and her hospitality is also wonderful. For those who love nature and are willing to travel from the center of Matera, I wholeheartedly recommend this place.
23/11/2025: We found ourselves at the restaurant by chance, after visiting the Crypt of Original Sin. Mrs. Angela is a generous and friendly hostess. We ate authentic and delicious food.

Brunch Bar U' Ciddar

11/11/2025: First time in Matera, early October, a rainy day, and we were coming from Liguria. The owners are wonderful, honest, and welcoming people, and the food is delicious. The lady who runs the place offered us traditional dishes (which she likes to vary every day). She was very honest, and the portions were generous, so she advised us to order our dishes only after we'd actually finished ours. The atmosphere was fun and friendly, just like the owners. The prices were super fair, and the food was traditional. I highly recommend it.
08/11/2025: Giovanna and her husband are a sight to behold. 😍😍😍Their strictly oven-cooked cuisine is excellent 🤤🤤🤤. Their wine? It works miracles (he knows 😂😂😂). A must-visit every time we go to Matera.
