This is the best experience I had in Italy - this is my verdict after 10 days traveling from Venice to Rome. We chanced upon this restaurant walking in the quiet Venice streets and this became the benchmark to beat for the rest of the trip. The food was excellent, we had lasagna and vongole(best I’ve ever had). The restaurant owner (an elderly man) who was our server took such good care of us , attentive to our needs, friendly and warm - we felt very welcomed. The restaurant is an authentic Venetian restaurant frequented by locals and the vibe was homely, casual and warm. If you are in Venice, make it a point to drop by and you won’t regret it.

In contrast to other restaurants that were half-empty or completely empty, "Ai Cugnai" was bustling, which encouraged us to go in. We were immediately seated, our drinks were served, and the dishes we ordered for dinner arrived promptly. Our choice for that evening was a complete success. We thoroughly enjoyed both the fried calamari and the spaghetti carbonara, praising their beautiful presentation, delicious flavor, and generous portions. The tiramisu, served with two dollops of cream, was more than enough to share between two people. Very reasonable prices and excellent service.

Great service and food, had the pasta. The space was a little on the smaller side but really cozy and servers are really attentive. There were people already lining up before they even opened, so do get there early. I forgot which kind of pasta I had, but it was a seafood one and it’s yummy. Friend had an entire fish that smelled great (I did not try, but it looks great too). The tiramisu was pretty good too but the limoncello was a bit too strong for me, but other than that, everything was great.

I was in Venice for the weekend and had dinner both nights at this phenomenal trattoria. We ate excellent fish, paid just enough for four people, and not excessive for the place we were visiting. Venice is always Venice. Speaking of the trattoria, we enjoyed the fish pie, the scallops appetizer, fried calamari, cod with polenta, spaghetti with mussels, and a lovely plate of mussels with an excellent sauce... Go there because it's worth it.
