Now let's get to the food and the price. The wow factor of the Pici (good), freshly prepared in front of you, is definitely a strong point. The pappa al pomodoro was exquisite, the crostini (hard to get wrong) were pleasant, not spectacular but enjoyable. The sliced ​​beef was mediocre, as was the sausage, and the beans all'uccelletto lacked flavor. I'm speaking about what I ate, not what other diners ate. I've been fortunate enough to visit Tuscany many times for work and pleasure, and I'm very familiar with the quality of its food, so I can safely say that what I ate last night didn't live up to my expectations. It's true that when it comes to food, perceptions are entirely subjective, but having frequented many of the most affordable and high-end restaurants (not that the quality of a restaurant is a determining factor), I dare say that this place doesn't reflect the idea of ​​Tuscan cuisine. What really determined my final judgment, however, was reading on the receipt (which I'm attaching for fairness) that a wine I personally buy from Eurospin for around €5 cost us a whopping €28! When dining out, you know that the markup on wine is the norm, usually ranging from two to four times the purchase price (here more than five). I'm well-versed in the sales/profits and expenses dynamics, having a brother with a restaurant in Venice, but customers expect to find wines they'd be hard-pressed to find at their local supermarket. Finding a "discount" bottle (no matter how good) served at a mid-range restaurant price breaks the magic and the expectation of quality that justifies the final bill. For a restaurateur, this is a very risky choice from an image standpoint. Even if it's legal, it's a practice that can seriously damage the establishment's reputation. If a customer recognizes the label, trust in the wine selection and the integrity of the establishment immediately plummets. Inevitably, you'll then wonder: "What kind of Vernaccia were those four glasses of Vernaccia for €4 each?" "What kind of meat did I eat?" "The food, like the wine, was from a discount store?" Obviously, this isn't an accusation, but I admit these questions arose spontaneously. Now, as I mentioned above, and given the arrogant responses to other reviews that don't quite match the owner's expectations, I reiterate that my review isn't meant as a personal attack, but rather as a starting point for improving service. Beyond the rudeness often seen in reviews, it's important to understand that some customers leave them because they have a right to express their experience, and they should be treated (the polite ones, of course) with a spirit of self-criticism and improvement. Which is what I hope happens... all things considered, the venue and service are pleasant, but the quality/price of the food isn't in line with the amount consumed.
