08/11/2025: I ordered "Pasta al Ragù," a traditional Italian dish that, by its very nature, is a slow-cooked meat sauce. Instead, after a 40-minute wait, I was served a simple "Pasta al Pomodoro."
When I pointed out to the waitress that the order was incorrect, as ragù requires meat, her reaction was not only unpleasant but professionally unacceptable.
She rudely and stubbornly insisted that, although she knew ragù is notoriously meat-based, their restaurant serves it "like this," meaning without. I had to explain to her, politely but firmly, that a sauce made solely with tomato is not ragù, but pasta al pomodoro. This stubborn defense of a mistake and, even worse, the obvious lack of culinary knowledge regarding the composition of a classic dish like ragù, cast a heavy shadow on the competence and quality of the table service provided, especially an insult to someone with extensive experience in the restaurant industry. An employee who can't tell the difference between ragù and tomato sauce, and who, moreover, attempts to bully the customer, is a serious threat to the restaurant's reputation.
To avoid an altercation in the dining room, I interrupted the discussion and, reluctantly, ate the food.
My experience was completely saved by the owner's intervention. I contacted him separately to explain the situation and the waitress's attitude. His response was
Immediate Apology: He sincerely apologized for the mistake and his employee's rude behavior. He demonstrated a perfect understanding of the difference between ragù and tomato sauce. He very kindly offered a complimentary dinner for the following evening.
I declined the invitation, but I gladly accepted the apology and the gesture, which demonstrates commendable professionalism and customer service.
Conclusion:
My rating is 1 star for the table experience (incorrect order, rudeness, and culinary incompetence of the wait staff). However, I give the owner 5 stars for his masterful management of the crisis. I will definitely return to try other dishes.
It is essential that management address the issue of staff training and behavior, as rudeness and basic ignorance about the menu items risk completely undermining the manager's professionalism and dedication.
