We really wanted to visit this restaurant as it had so many good reviews. It was, however, impossible to get through on the phone to make a reservation. We turned up at opening on a Monday evening to it being fully booked but we managed to get a booking for the next night, however they’d need to table back by 9.
We arrived promptly, being the first ones there. I made a joke saying we wanted to make sure we had enough time to eat, the woman was not amused. We got the overall impression that we weren’t particularly welcome as we weren’t locals.
They had no English menus but that’s nothing a Google translate can’t solve. We had Tigella for starters, this was really good and enjoyed the lard pesto. However things went downhill with the main. I ordered the lasagna daily special. As soon as it was served, I knew it was warmed through. I cut it in half, and it was cold. The food was taken away and quickly slammed back down in front of me, having been nuked in the microwave. I don’t mind microwave lasagna at home, but in the home of lasagna?! It was disappointing, especially with the servers attitude.
Dessert was fine and the bill was very reasonable. However the cold lasagna and cold service just really put a damper on the evening. If you can’t get a reservation, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Delightful little restaurant with few seats in the center of Modena. The length of the waiting list (two or three months for Saturday evenings) is a testament to the quality of the cuisine

Small tavern with great attention to quality and service. The fried gnocco is excellent as an appetizer and the perfect, small, tasty tortellini are al dente. Very pleasant champagne. Well done Davide and great everyone!!

Trovato per caso. Basta una parola: ottimo. Piccolo ed accogliente. Personale sempre sorridente, mai forzato. Piatti ottimi: riso Zemian, costine all'aceto balsamico, gnocco fritto e dolce. Per me e mia moglie è necessario tornarci ... per chi non ci è mai andato è necessario provarlo. N.B. Non avevamo prenotato e per pura fortuna abbia.o trovato posto. In 10 minuti si è riempito. Bravi!

Piccola Osteria Zemian is a true pearl in the historic center of Modena, where taste reigns supreme. Besides this, it offers a pleasant atmosphere where time stands still, accompanied by delicate classical music in the background and tradition flourishes in every dish. Lots of attention to the customer and attention to detail, a menu worth trying! Restaurant with few seats, so it is better to book to avoid the risk of finding everything full.

A welcoming and well-kept place, with an atmosphere that makes you immediately feel at home. The staff is kind, attentive and knows how to make you feel at ease. I loved everything about the menu we chose, but the tortellini were the real highlight! Honest prices for excellent quality. An unforgettable dinner, I will definitely be back!

We ate here for the first time and we ate well but in the place there was a smell of too heavy food and fried food, as soon as we got home I had to wash my clothes. It was also difficult to enjoy the dishes and the wine due to the smell in which you were immersed. For a place with good cuisine, this aspect should be given more attention, it's a shame.

Fantastic experience in Modena!
The place is very welcoming but elegant, with light background music that makes the meal truly pleasant, the service is kind and not hasty, the menu is complete offering a wide choice of typical dishes from the area and more modern reinterpretations, creating an excellent combination .
We tried the tigelle and fried gnocco appetizer, with some cured meats and accompaniments, the fried gnocco was spectacular!
The risotto is also excellent, with its combinations changing daily.
We ended our lunch with dessert and coffee (accompanied by delicious biscuits).
An experience to absolutely repeat, if you pass through Modena, highly recommended!
